Mesia
For most of Mesia’s neighbors, the term “Mesian” evokes legendary warriors, trained from birth in every martial discipline known to humankind. It brings to mind songs of tight-knit martial bands, holding strong in the face of unbeatable odds. It sings of a great yearly competition that crowns the preeminent warrior-athlete in Mesia, and—by extension—the world. The majority of Mesia’s inhabitants, though, aren’t members of its martial elite. The famed warriors of Mesia have the means to devote their lives to studying and training in the ways of war because they rest atop a rigid social structure of serfs and servants that largely dwell beyond the city’s walls.
The city itself stands right on the water, and lies in a basin that surrounds the city naturally. As the city has expanded, it has done so by building further and further out in the water itself, sometimes building artificial islands, and occasionally just building on stilts. The city's neighborhoods and districts are highly regimented and segmented, with each serving a distinct purpose.
