Avem

Avem, the nation of the Judgement. A religious nation not unlike that of Harna, but with a number of key differences. Unlike Harna who's royal family is only tied to Deshai, it is the high priest of Avem who rules over the land, chosen by the god of justice himself, Varyjon. The high priest of Avem, or as he is known within the borders, Arch-Legislator. The Arch-Legislator has the final say in any decision made within the nation, and his law and influenced is enforced without question by the Knights of Legislation.   Known across Sedden as the most strict of all of the nations within Sedden, Avem is known for it's rules. Though, quite a lot of success has come to this nation of law, as with the exception of their ongoing conflicts on the Venian border, there's been little political tension between the Aven and the rest of the world. In every city in Avem, every town hall, every library, every temple to Varyjon there is a tome known as The Guideline. All of Avem are beheld to the Guideline, and to break it's rules are to become an enemy of Avem. Every crime is responded to with an apt punishment, and every crime is punished. Unlike Auburn or Coastal Muria where the legal system can get rather complex, the Knights of Legislation are quick to receive word from their lord and perform their legal rights as judge, jury, and executioner.     It's people trade with outside nations as normal, though the use of magic, steam engines, and other advancements is held to a tight restriction. Only those with licenses granted in correlation with a long series of tests to prove they are no danger are allowed to perform magic or artifice of any form. This often makes life difficult for tourists are travelers, but the laws are enforced regardless. Many merchants have their Aven Drivers Licenses or Arcane Permits simply to keep them from being hassled by the Legislation as they pass through.

The Knights of Legislation

As one of the most disciplined, skilled, and revered military force in all of Sedden, the Knights of Legislation have a very strict set of rules that they must all follow, as well as a harsh list of prerequisites that you must fulfill before you are even permitted the attempt to enroll in the Aven Academy of Law and Order found in their capital city, Elijah. The role of the Knights of Legislation is to enforce the Guideline across the lands of Avem, and in any unclaimed lands as to keep them safe with their unwavering order. Though, the Guideline is not the only code that the Knights abide by. Each knight upon being inducted takes an oath, one that binds them to their reasons for becoming a knight. Some have their bond as their family, their home, the nation, a friend or a loved one. Every knights oath binds them to something unique, and gives them all a reason to continue fighting.
For every crime, every unjust act, every evil step, there must be a just response. This is why the Knights of Legislation are at constant war with the people of Veno'mia, and why so many of them can be found on the borders of Omen'an. When one sins, they are to be punished. To give in to ones pride, to be overcome by ones greed, to let ones wrath control their actions, to have ones thoughts clouded by envy, to have ones wishes muddled by gluttony, or to have ones mine taken from it's path by sloth is to allow sin to control you. These acts are acts of evil, acts of the wretched, and it is the job of a Knight of Legislation to bring punishment, discipline, and judgement to the sinners of Argent.

History

Founded in the wake of the conflicts between Harna and Dalrum, a great priest of Varyjon declared he would create a home for those who wish to be protected by the law and order all deserve. The conflicts of man are always because of disagreements of faith, morality, or belonging. "This is mine!", "That is wrong!" and so on. Childish babble, that should be ignored.   Varyjon tells us the divine truths of what should and should not be, and a home in his name there will be. And so he went and completed his goal, founding Avem and welcoming any who would be willing to kneel before his law. In exchange, the people of Avem would be granted peace and safety within it's borders.

Foreign Relations

With the exception of it's active confrontations with both Veno'mia and Omen'an, Avem remains on neutral ground with every other geopolitical power in Sedden. It makes few agreements that it doesn't need to, and remains away from anyone's bad side when it can. It helps that their grievances often fall on the evil, rather than on those who step on it's toes. Harna has encroached on it's borders, slowly pushing them inward over the years, and Avem has had little issue. Besides some warnings, little conflict has broken out, and they always seem to come to peace in the end.
