Harna

A land named after its capital city, the kingdom of Harna is one of the most powerful nations along The Great Tradeway Sea. Through prosperous now, Harna was once merely a port city that King Obern Harn, first of his line, founded shortly after he led a small band of settlers blindly into the the Broadcrag Mountains. Unprepared and ill equipped to deal with the hostile landscape, many of the settlers would have perished without the great fortune of a god they called The Lady of Fate. As the story goes, they were saved by a robed young woman, who led them to food and shelter before disappearing into the snowy peaks.     The beautiful silver-haired lady would approach the group, the smell of their own soon-to-be fate overwhelming their senses as their sickness and hunger become palpable. Her eyes would scan over the group, and she would speak directly to their leader, a young Obern Harn. "Are you the leader of these people?" She'd ask, causing shivers up the spine of every man and woman present, except for Harn. He would stand tall, glaring forward at the stranger; fearing magic, but showing no sign of it. His expression was firm, and his posture confident. "Yes." He'd reply, his voice hoarse from the journey. "These are my people. We flee the Amber, and are in search of home." The woman raised an eyebrow in understanding, then glanced across the group.   She would talk, asking how they had survived this far without assistance, a genuine curiosity in her tone. He'd answer her question with a tale. He'd speak, telling her of their ventures across the desert, a desert much more dangerous than the Broadcrags even though the dwarves that call it home would never admit it. He'd speak of the Worms their hunting parties were forced to kill for food, and the stonehail that they sacrificed their brittle clay shields to defend against. She'd never met humans so resilient. Humans so conscious of their mortality, yet so strong-willed that they'd not let it stop them from what they sought after. She spoke one last phrase as acknowledgement of his tale, before she left without further word.
"Obern. Your people's souls are testaments to my beloved's talent, but your resilience, will, and courage are testaments to your own. Your people will survive this trip through this horrid land of rock and steel, and you will build the home you seek. I cannot know the future as my sister would, but I know your ending nonetheless. March on, people of Harn. I will see you when you've finished your swim, and I will show you my home."
Once gone, Obern and his company, reinvigorated by this strange experience, marched on. They would soon build the city of Harna, and claim the coast as their own. Today, Harna is a booming kingdom of trade and luxury, a gate through which all goods coming from the northern or southern kingdoms of Sedden must go to reach the other side. Their contact with the sea elves in the fledgling years of their empire gave them a strong relationship from the start with the people of Iquonial during the massive trade booms that followed the founding of Murinechire. Auburn had no navy, and their trade was easily intercepted by the unpleasant, but Harna had some of the best sailors in all of Sedden. The smaller south-western kingdoms were forced by way of border to give in to their existence as a third party, as Harna has never been particularly generous with traveling through their borders, and taking the long way to Iquanial and travelling along the frozen highway along the western edge of the ocean would surely only bring death.   Harna stands now as a pillar of industry in comparison to the others of the south, boasting the strongest military strength among the kingdoms, strongest economy, and second highest approval rating among its citizens (second only to Unity). Its military is comprised mostly of highly trained humans, with a support team of Warforged gained from deals with Auburn. Their armor made of the best dwarven steel, as part of deals with the broken empire of the Broadcrags in the wake of The Uphill War, and their soldiers are armed with Murian weaponry of the finest kinds. However, they've shown little hostility besides wishing to simply keep their home their own, and despite the threat they could hold, they have positive relations with nearly every nation in Sedden.

Culture

The traditionalist people of Harna, despite their economic role in the world, are very religious and familial people. Their communities, even the largest of them, are interconnected in ways few other places are. The natives is very friendly among themselves, with affection often seen as inappropriate to do with those outside your family or relationships by others being given without hesitation to neighbors, friends, and other members of the community. Kisses on the cheek, hugs, leaning, and hand holding, and so on.

History

The founding settlers of Harna were the first king, Obern Harn, and five close friends. Two women named Amelia Rain and Eirika Clayton, and three men named Oscar Creed, Trenton Xander, and Callum Anim. The five settlers families have all prospered up until now, with the exception of the Creed family. While every family line remained notable and strong, the Creed family was tarnished by his third generation son, Oliver Creed. The boy while he was head of the house, stole money from the royal family, and sold out important intelligence to the dwarves. What he was paid for this betrayal is still unknown publicly. The families of Rain, Clayton, Xander, and Anim all remain strong to this day and are known as the founding families of Harna.

Religion

The people of Harna are almost universally Pratazien, a religion founded in the name of Deshai, and focuses around her worship as a goddess of the end. Prataziens believe that, without ending, everything would be meaningless, and with ending, every event, positive or negative, becomes a lesson or a teaching in the survival guide that is your memory. Many churches can be found in her name across Harna, and her black feather symbol adorns the walls of the white stone palace in the center of Harna City.

"Resilience. Will. Courage."

These soldiers are Knights as per the Monster Manual. Their role is to protect the site, and so even though they respect you they do not follow your every whim, especially if they are ordered to do something unrelated to or against the teachings of Deshai. The guards change intermittently, and so they are free to be controlled without worry by any plot member or DM when the time comes.
