Fallencrest
Located in Sear's Dim Periphery, Fallencrest is the largest settlement of underspecies on Argent, composed primarily of a Dark Elven legacy dating back to the time of True Dragonkind. Constructed centuries ago as the elves delved deep into the earth, the solid stone buildings are relics in themselves of an era before the very existence of some younger races. Typified by the plunging spires that evoke a deadly mass of black speleothems, Fallencrest buildings take advantage of the reduced centripetal force of the Periphery to build soaring buildings that would be utterly impossible in the surface. The primary goal of this vertically-oriented construction style is to save floor space, since the caverns of the Dim Periphery are very much limited compared to the open fields of surface lands. Vertical climbing and steep stairs are common features of Fallencrest construction, and the deeper reaches may even require the scaling of exterior walls to reach higher floors, which saves the interior space from the need for the footprint of a stairwell.
The people of Fallencrest are raised in a very politically active climate. The democratic process necessitates near-constant referendums, which are magically tallied very promptly and placed into practice by the Senators. Any particular Fallencrestian is sure to know their Senator's policies at the very minimum, and will likely have an opinion on a majority of their opponents as well.
In addition to the strong political tradition of the Black City, there is also a strong military legacy dating back to the earliest days of the city's founding, when elves struggled to carve out a life among the hostile climate of the Periphery. As there are no real kingdoms or nations to contend with in the Periphery, The Fellrangers mission of protection attracts a wide range of capable hands. Membership for at least a handful of years in order to complete training is virtually guaranteed of any Fallencrest citizen, and many serve their community for decades, if not centuries.
