Omen'an

A land, which a few hundred years ago, was a thriving nation built on the mutual trust between many who were already cast aside. Now, Omen'on sits as an example for mortals as to what happens when you deal with the wretched. The lands of Omen'an span miles, and are a bestial wasteland controlled by bloodthirsty brigands, fiendish monsters, and heartless thieves.   Despite it's original government having collapsed, the fiends of Omen'an do answer to someone. To bring order to the chaos, a man simply known as the Wretched King rules over the lands of Omen'an, commanding the loyalty of the fiends who inhabit the ruins of the once bright lands of Omen'an.   Omenstep itself is a beacon of evil, attracting monsters from all across the land, taking their shot to try and earn favor with the Wretched King. Those who speak of his words, speak of promises of power, riches, magic, and more all for simply joining his council and being useful enough for him to keep you there.

Structure

There's little organization outside of Omenstep itself within the lands of Omen'an. Fiends and brigands roam the lands fighting among outsiders and themselves for whatever they can get their claws on. Greed, lust, and hunger guide the inhabitants of this awful place.

Culture

In times past, Omen'an was known for it's stunning architecture. With some of the best masons in the world within it's borders. Now, those constructs are but ruins, giving only small glimpses of what that beauty may have looked like in years past. The buildings within the older towns within Unity, as well as the capital of Lightbloom are the few places where these structures can still be seen in all their glory.

History

During the years 1000-1200 AF the Tieflings first began to show themselves. Wretched magic began to seep into the material, infecting the newborns of many humans in the southern kingdoms of Sedden as little by little, the human population became infected with fiendish blood. At first, their infections were few and far between, but as time went on the tieflings found themselves peppering every city in for hundreds of miles. Superstition quickly took over the mortal races, as the fiendish had only been known as bad omens or evil beings in the past, and so the tieflings were treated awfully. Cast to the streets, made into slaves, or outright killed. In the years 1215, a young tiefling man named Omen’an with a dream for equality and opportunity for his race founded the city of Omenstep, and began the nation of Omen’an. He built the city in an unfertile and impossible to tame area of land, far enough south of Auburn that no harm would come from them, and so Omen’an began.   Hundreds of years pass, and the people of Omen’an find themselves ruled by a king, no longer of any direct blood relation to Omen’an, though bearing his name through marriage. A selfish man, talented enough with magic that he’d attempt a ritual to increase the strength of his newly acquired nation. The people of Auburn had discovered the secrets of putting a soul into metal, the people of Harna had been partnered with the sea elves long enough that their connections to the northern world made them a threat of their own, being the first of the southern nations to really treat gunpowder with the respect it deserved. Omen’an needed it’s edge too. So he would cast a few spells, and contacted a terrible creature from a reality he’d known little about. The wretched. The things said between the king and his patron were never revealed, and the information was lost as the king soon fell ill, and died. Only his closest advisors knew of his mistake, and kept it secret while his son trained for the throne, and his second in command took his place. Though, not for long. As time went on, the people of Omenstep began to shift and morph into horrible fiendish monsters, and ravaged the countryside, killing anything and everyone, turning their remains into monsters in their wake, spreading like wildfire. During this time, Unity was founded, with a number of untainted tiefling cities to the east, and a dream.   Now, Omenstep remains a stain on the maps of Sedden, and a constant reminder of why any interaction with the Wretched should be avoided. It’s hillsides are roamed by wretched beasts, bloodthirsty bandits, and other terrible creatures which claim the place home.

Foreign Relations

Formally, there are no real spoken relationships between the Wretched King and any outside nations, but they're not recognized by most to even be a nation. To many history books, Omen'an fell long ago. When it comes to conflict, the borders of both Unity and Friya are protected by the The Wretched Scar, where as those to the north desperately hold them back. The dwarves of the Broadcrags and the warforged knights of Auburn do all they can to keep the fiends borders from expanding.
