Stopstalk Legions
The Kingdom of Stopstalk possesses a military force unrivaled in strength and discipline.
Structure
Praetors
The Legions of Stopstalk are twelve strong. Each Legion is lead by two Praetors (generals). These 24 Praetors form the Praetorian Guard, which reports directly to the Sovereign*.Normally, 22 Praetors and their legions are spread amongst the kingdom. The two Praetors that lead the first legion, also known as the royal guard, reside in Delphi. One of these serves as the captain of the Sovereign's guard at Castle Delphi, while the other commands the Gates of the Titans, the entry to the great city of Delphi.
Centurions and Cohorts
Each Legion is made up of a number of Cohorts. The number of Cohorts varies by each legion's duties and requirements. Each Cohort within a legion is led by two officers known as Centurions. Centurions are responsible for their Cohort's management and training. Each legion has an overarching role, such as Infantry, Cavalry, Artillery, or Support. Duties pertaining to a legion's role are then divided into its Cohorts.Legionnaires
The average soldier in the Stopstalk Legions is a Legionnaire. The duties and training of a legionnaire vary depending on the legion to which that legionnaire is assigned; A legionnaire in an infantry legion is likely to be highly trained in close unit tactics, as well as single combat; While a legionnaire of an artillery legion may be more akin to an engineer, trained with the use and maintenance of siege weaponry.Auxiliary Forces
Knightly Orders. Each Founding House of Stopstalk possesses a knightly order and private legion. During wartime, these legions are called upon to serve their kingdom as auxiliary forces. The order of highest honor, and an aspiration of many legionnaires, is the Salamanders of House Hollosmith. The Salamanders are among the most elite fighters in the entire kingdom, and they train a legion beneath them to the same standard.Corpus Inquisitorius. A clandestine branch of the First Legion, the Inquisitorius operates quietly within the kingdom to root out the most secretive threats to the crown.
Culture
Rigid discipline is the mandate of legion training. Each cohort functions like a well-oiled machine. Membership in the legion is seen as a great honor, and is the aspiration of many young folk in the kingdom.
Public Agenda
The legions' core purpose is to protect the people of Stopstalk and their interests. They are trained to serve citizens and uphold the laws of the state.
History
The first praetorian guard was the House of Hollosmith. Their ancestors formed the fighting force that carved the way through the Frozen Hearth into Arxios at the beginning of the Current Era. When the kingdom was founded in Delphi, the first Hollosmiths dedicated their lives to creating and training the first legion to protect their new home.
*Normally, the Praetorian Guard is commanded by the crown prince, or the non-inheriting Sovereign. With the absence of King Zeus, and Prince Apollo undertaking his quest of glory, the Praetorian Guard is lead by a Praetor the first legion. Cyrrin Toldes, in cooperation with Queen Leto herself.
