The Schemer

Tyrant of the Dark Depths

Very little is known about the Schemer. It is entirely possible it is a sailor's tale that spread in the early ages, stemming from the natural fear of the unknown. Many of the old legends refer to it as a male, whose sole purpose was to deceive and sew chaos in the world, often citing it as the father of the many leviathans and krakens that spawn from the Dark Depths.

Myths

Brothers' Quarrel

A common tale in southern Altria, often told by Gnoll travelers, is that a legend has been passed down among the Taurean, claiming that the Schemer and The Kingfisher were once brothers. They fought many wars alongside each other until one day the Schemer stole the Kingfisher's lover. They waged war against each other, costing many lives, and the Night Sovereign punished them by transforming them into horrid beasts, doomed to never walk together again, but to always be at war.

Father of Sea Monsters

Sailors often tell tales of monstrous creatures outside the safety of Edore's shores. Though it is widely acknowledged that there are large sea creatures that are openly hostile, the sailors tell tales that a king among monsters slumbers in the briny deep, spawning the creatures from his very dreams. They believe that these creatures are made from his evil desires to wreak havoc and his realized dreams exert his power on the sea and its travelers.

Old Queen's Misfortune

A legend exists among the Undine that the very first King Under the Sea had a bride so beautiful that the entirety of the ocean considered her the most beautiful thing in the world. Envious of the King, the Schemer led the bride into the Dark Depths, corrupting her with his eldritch presence and creating the very first siren.
