Yōkai

Spirit folk, demons, monsters, or ancestral spirits returned from beyond, the Yōkai are a diverse and fascinating collection of creatures from another plane entirely. Not much is known about the Yōkai as a whole, as they often have very little in common with each other. Some speculate that the Temple Dog is just another form of Yōkai, which is a far cry from other known variations like the Oni. Many of the Yōkai appear unique, garnering them worship to appease them and delay their otherworldly wrath. Others appear as animals that simply keep children from drowning in a local river. More might be gathered if the entrances to Yōkai no Kuni were not constantly changing position, flickering in and out of existence all over Kondai.
