Broken Axe Inn
The Broken Axe Inn is owned and operated by Duror and Gerra a married couple. While serving as a member of the Crownsguard Watch , Duror’s charisma and ability to get along with other species was noted by his superiors. Wanting to keep a closer eye on Rel and the region, they provided Duror with a sum of gold and sent him to build an inn in Rel.
Duror was accepted immediately in Rel. While his gold was welcome, his willingness to serve in the Forest Guard made a good impression on the townsfolk. His talent was recognized, and he became a sergeant in the Guard.
Duror met his wife, Gerra, when a raiding party of bandits attempted a smash and grab at the warehouses. Duror rushed into the fray and, according to their story, Gerra broke her axe over his head. The bandits were defeated, and Gerra was captured. Impressed by her, Duror intervened, and she was given a choice between death as a bandit or life as a cook. Accepting life, she worked in the inn to pay off her debt to the town. She and Duror were married a year later and the two have made the inn a
great success.
Gerra also serves in the Forest Guard, often working with the Bear Fang orcs after earning their acceptance and respect.
The Broken Axe Inn is, of course, named after the axe Gerra broke over Duror’s head. The axe hangs in the main room of the inn. Under the axe hangs the Rules of the Inn:

• Pay Your Bill
• Tolerate Other Customers
• No Fireballs!
The inn caters mostly to the violent sort of people, such as adventurers, mercenaries, and soldiers. It is also favored for meetings between diplomats and spies from the nearby nations that provide funds and support for Rel. Because of this, the inn does excellent business. The inn offers the usual food and lodging. Gerra has made a study of recipes and can produce many specialized meals matching the tastes of many species and regions. She is especially knowledgeable of traditional orcish and dwarven recipes from the region.
