The Well Dippers
The Well Dippers are an organization of adventurers, scientists, and humanitarians who seek to aid humanity with no bias or affiliation to any one group by locating and exposing sources of water throughout the desolate landscape of Ashrain. Founded many years after the destruction of Earth's natural ecosystems during the Great Cataclysm, the Well Dippers utilize scavenged technology, scientific and geographic expertise, and a variety of other methods to locate buried sources of water beneath the ash blanket. Viable sources include buried lakes, collection basins, aquifers, and natural springs. After locating a viable source, the Well Dippers establish a camp and work to expose the source and make it available for human exploitation by running pipelines below the surface, or carving out caves beneath the ash blanket where the water source can be accessed without pollution by the ashfall. The Well Dippers actions throughout the former North American continent have led to the exposing and viable exploitation of hundreds of lost water sources, which in turn has led to a resurgence in the human population after the devastation of the Searing Plague. The Well Dippers are committed to humanitarian aid, creating freely accessible and open water sources that any human being can utilize. Multiple settlements, camps, and towns have sprung up around their sources, and they work with organizations of force such as the Uprising to ensure that larger groups such as the Apollyon cult do not monopolize available water sources, ensuring that they remain uncontested and available to all.
