Nests of bird-like creatures are found close to the expedition site, with weather driving the various threads dangling from the Aetherian sea away, they awaken from Hibernation and start hunting - unfortunately their prey includes members from the nearby expedition site.

As the birds started hunting the nearby prey, they drew the attention of the expedition members who attempted to resolve the matter. Yet, due to an initial matter of self-defense the birds started to harry and deliberately attack expedition members who came close, with a seemingly inexhaustible supply of them attacking.   The birds were especially dangerous in their innate ability to hypnotize and enthrall males of a race, which made interacting with them risky. In an attempt to abate this problem, Suzy and Marrok both launched ranged assaults against them, as Ferrous would quickly intercept the attempts of the birds to pick up and pick off various members of the guardsmen.   Still, neither Tucu nor Cawh wished to see too many feathery fellows slain, so a clever counterattack was proposed - due to the conditions that had allowed the birds to cease their hibernation being unique, by poisoning their food supply with sleep toxins, forcing the birds to enter an early hibernation would provide a temporary cessation of the problem until the next time when the Aetherian sea parted.   Unfortunately, due to this early rest diplomacy attempts with the species could not be attempted as they harshly and immediately attempt to remove intruders, though their physical forms remain asleep whilst doing so.
