A Power Awakened
Summary
The party leaves Sokamoto to guard the Third Champion as they rush down to the keep's lower levels to assist Erevan. They find him surrounded by a large group of soldiers and are able to fight their way to him. They push onwards to the lowest levels of the keep and come across the statue of a dragon with amethysts embedded in the eyes and an outstretched palm. An indentation in the chest is a perfect fit for an amulet Erevan wears that once belonged to his grandfather; placing it in the indentation causes a sharp spike to emerge from the statue's palm. The party deduces that Erevan must prick his hand, and his blood causes a hidden doorway to reveal itself. As they pass through the doorway, they find themselves in a massive cave of glittering violet gemstones. A massive horde of gold and silver covers the ground, and in the center of the chamber is a massive hovering shard of magical amethyst. They are surprised to find Trinn inside, who reveals herself to be merely a potent illusory projection; her true form she says is that of an ancient slumbering amethyst dragon named Thriinvureem. She says eons ago dragons were forced into a deep slumber by their creator, but she specifically had been chosen to watch over House Goldenblood as her psionic abilities allowed her to provide guidance while staying in her slumber. She needs Erevan to wake her though, as in her weakened state if a servant of the Obsidian Empress were to awaken her she could be corrupted and forced to serve an evil cause. The party approach the hovering amethyst that contains Thriinvureem and Erevan begins a ritual to awaken her. In the middle of the ritual Sokamoto appears in the chamber, his eyes black and glassed over and a swirling vortex of dark energy in his chest. The party realize that he is under the sway of the Obsidian Empress and do battle with him. They are able to prevent him from reaching Erevan long enough for the ritual to complete and Thriinvureem to awaken. As her massive form fills the chamber, Aberchak knocks Sokamoto unconscious. Thriinvureem is able to draw the draconic orb from within Sokamoto's chest and destroy it, permanently freeing him from the Empress's control. She then beckons the party to climb aboard her and breaks out of the chamber to turn the tide of battle. With her assistance, the Ajokai soon surrender. In the aftermath, Lethe comes across the body of Ferdinand lying on the battlefield surrounded by several rabbitfolk soldiers. He is able to revive him using magics from the Kitab Almawtaa, swearing to never take another familiar. Over the next two days, the surrendered Ajokai are imprisoned in the dungeons of Goldenblood Keep. The party negotiate with the Blooming Maiden to release Precision from her contract, offering the Third Champion in her stead. Virren, Thuldar, and Thriinvureem complete the spell to return Teldyrn to the Material Plane. Erevan chooses to stay with the city and remain among his people, taking up the mantle of High Battlemage that his grandfather once held. Lethe, Precision, and Aberchak elect to return to the Wilderwoods, at the site of the now-inert Planespire.Chapter Forty-Three
