Prior Knowledge
General Summary
The party elected to spend the afternoon at the inn while waiting to meet with Ra'zik. Precision asked Lethe if he knew anything about the cult of Solkath, but his knowledge on that religion was hazy. While Precision asked around to the bar's patrons for information, Lethe continued translating the notes he found in the Volarian ruins. Using them, he was able to figure out how to utilize raw arcaltium to create enchanted items. Meanwhile, Precision encountered a half-orc at the bar who seemed to know a bit about the cult, having encountered some of them in the military who tried to recruit him. He told Precision that Solkath was a death god in the Rumiyyad pantheon. He was often depicted as a humanoid figure with the head of a wolf. The cult believes that one day Solkath will break loose from his prison and take vengeance against the other gods and their worshippers. The half-orc said that after hearing that he tuned out the rest of their pitch, but said he did hear them say something about resurrection rituals and attempting to create an avatar of Solkath. After waiting a few hours, Ra'zik approached the party and told them it was time for the meeting. On the way, he confided in them that he was having reservations about this. While he did not disagree with the actions New Dawn were taking, he did not like that the orders had been coming from someone outside of the group. He told the party that he would make up his mind in the moment but asked them to back his play. Upon reaching the location, the contact was nowhere in sight. The party waited for a moment before a hooded figure arrived, keeping their face obscured. The figure offered Ra'zik the same deal as his predecessor; New Dawn would be funded under the table in return for their occasional service. To that end, the group was asked to assassinate Roselawn's margrave Anton Thornsby. Ra'zik agreed, but soon questions about the figure's identity escalated to violence when Precision attempted to attack him. Her axe passed through him, revealing it to be an illusion. Spotting the actual contact running away, the party gave chase through the city streets. Eventually, Erevan managed to tackle him and began to interrogate him. The figure revealed himself to be a cleric of Or, acting on behalf of Prior Confessio. The party agreed to let him go, and Lethe started following him while invisible. Precision and Erevan meanwhile returned to Ra'zik but kept the information they uncovered secret.Chapter Seventeen
