Welcome to the Jungle
General Summary
The party left the Golden Schooner on a mission to defeat Bramwell Brink, in exchange for John Foote smuggling them into Alcaster. Heading into the Techeryan Jungle, they followed the map Foote drew for them. On the way towards the lair, Lethe noticed a group of tracks and some sign of a struggle. Following them, they found a dead griffon and a group of men struggling to put something in a sack. The party attacked the group and defeated them, leaving one alive to guide their way to Brink's layer. Opening the sack the party discovered a baby griffon who was orphaned by the pirates. Precision adopted him and named him Pancake, burying the mother griffon with the help of Lethe's unseen servant. Meanwhile, Lethe tied up the surviving pirate who introduced himself as Bryce Battoo. During the night, Precision continued to bond with Pancake. Sometime after midnight she noticed a tiger eating at the remains of the slain pirates, but avoided any combat with it. Night passed without much incident, although the bodies were taken by jungle creatures. In the morning, Lethe used the spell Binfire to intimidate Bryce into fully supporting the party against Brink. He led them to the lair and told them everything about it, and lured two of the guards out where they were decimated by the waiting party. Entering the cave, they sent Bryce ahead to distract some of the guards and allow the party an early advantage. This was effective against one of them, but once Brink was made aware of the situation he quickly deducing Bryce was a traitor and threw him to Edward, his pet alligator. Bryce did not last long. An intense fight ensued, during which Precision was put under a Command spell by Brink and forced to flee. Brink did not have much time to revel in this victory though before Erevan killed him with a series of Magic Missiles. The party looted some of Brink's stash (including recovering the Flag of Korvallis) before some more pirates appeared, drawn by the noise of battle. These were quickly dispatched, and one survivor fled. He tripped a net trap and was restrained, and the party nearly left him before they decided to rest in the lair before heading back out. They spoke to the survivor who announced himself as Jakob Tropical, the lion handler for Brink's crew. He told the party that with Brink dead he was more than willing to sign up with Foote, and asked that the party spare his life so he could free the lions kept by Brink. The party agreed to this, and after spending the night resting and recuperating they headed out, leaving Jakob to handle the lions. Upon returning to Crimsonhold, they presented Foote with the Flag of Korvallis as well as proof of Brink's demise. Foote said he would uphold his end of the bargain, but first needed to handle a few affairs in town before leaving. He told them that he would leave at the crack of dawn the next day, and that they were welcome to stay at the Golden Schooner until it was time to leave. If they did not want to stay at the Golden Schooner then they should meet him aboard his ship the Amity at sunrise.Characters Interacted With
