House Leowen

The golden lions of Mane Rock are proud people. They value their reputation of honour and strength above their actual riches. Before they gained their royal status, they had relations throughout the regions. As the close advisors of the Highwaters, they aided in the organisation of the Crownlands far before the Morbett period. When the Rosenthorn Wars were declared by the Empire of Flowers, the family head at the time, Leonard Leowen, fought alongside the Highwaters to defend their lands. This fighting claimed the lives of both Leonard, his brother Leogred and his son Leomane. When Highwaters fell, they were given the choice of dying together with their former overlords or bending the knee. Leoras Leowen, son of Leogred bent his knee and became the new lord of Mane Rock, now with Fernand Morbett sitting as the overseer of the Crownlands.   The house Leowen led the six other high lords of the lower lands in the war of independence against The Empire of Flowers which ended in the battle of golden lions.   "We stand." These are the words of house Leowen, though only since quite recently.   During the Morbett period, the lords of Mane Rock were considered brilliant military strategists and had been quite close with the Emperors of Flowers. They served as advisors and many of them had sat on the closed councils of many of the emperors as Lords of Steel. There had always been resentment towards the Empire though, the Lower Lands were considered by many southron lords as a stain on the map, a mistake the Gods made while shaping the world, and they were not the only lords that thought so.   After many generations of hearing the emperor and his lords insulting the lands of their forefathers, they had had enough. When the man called Filbert Morbett was invited to a grand feast at the castle Riverwin, the seat of House Spring, lord Leobert Leowen conspired with three other noble families including the Springs to arrest and behead the man when he arrived in the castle and start a rebellion against the Empire.   The gates opened, the chains clasped, the head rolled and Leobert had now gone from the Lord of a castle to the King of a kingdom. Leobert showed great bravery and leadership skills in the war, valiantly leading all houses that had started the rebellion and later adding several more to his cause. His efforts were not in vain, after a long 6 years of battling Floran men, after the enormous victory the Kingdoms achieved at the battle of golden claws the Empire conceded and the Lower Lands were allowed to go free.   While Leobert just wanted to return to his wife and child and rest, there was one large question that had to be answered. Would the kingdoms rule themselves, or would they unite under one banner? On this matter, no one could agree, until one of the men, now King Hendric Spring of the Riverside swore his allegiance to Leobert, the man he had started this with and the man he had followed into battle many times over. Others soon followed him in his chanting, but many did not. The Tremors of the North and the Surreys of the Lavish would rather keep the independence they had fought so hard for.   This lead to the creation of the alliance chain, all the Kings would marry one of their close family members to one of the royal houses to ensure that alliances would be established and no one king could attack the other without risking the entire kingdoms to aid the defender. This alliance would be overseen by the High-King , who would have little authority over the Kings of the Lower Lands. A High-King oversees the entire realm, though if he dares to step out of line he risks turning the entire realm against him.   And so it came to be that lord Leobert Leowen was elected to be High-King Leobert the Liberator.   Leobert set a crown on the head of his golden lion and changed his house words from "The Lion Still has Claws" to "We Stand." He moved out of Mane Rock and into the city once held by the King of the Lower Lands called Highwaters, which he renamed to Crown's Rest. So it came to be that the small house Leowen of Mane Rock was transformed into the High-Royal house of Crown's Rest and the Lower Lands.
