Helmfirth Arena

A huge arena located in Helmfirth.
This arena is built in a circular fashion with the arena surrounded by seats where spectators can view the events from up above. It draws many spectators from all over the kingdom and even people from the surrounding kingdoms come to view the battles here.

The arena holds many events such as horse racing and athletics competitions but mainly holds combat displays. These combat displays are sometimes duels and sometimes team battles. The combat displays only end with deaths when an accident happens.
The combatants, called gladiators, receive a lot of training and during the combat displays use specialised armour and blunt swords or polearms as the goal here is not to kill the opponent but to entertain the spectators, maces and warhammers are usually not allowed. Gladiators fight with an umpire watching and judging them, a gladiator counts as losing a fight when receiving a hard hit on the helmet, is pinned to the ground or surrenders from exhaustion.
When a gladiator does well enough they may be offered sponsorships and accept the best paying sponsor who buys better equipment for them, pays for their food and luxuries and may give them a monthly payment, in return they advertise the sponsor's name and/or business in and outside the arena. The gladiators are famous and often meet with and receive gifts from spectators before and after the events.

Tourism

The arena gets visitors from all social classes and is almost always bought out. People from all over Laighenlia and even the surrounding kingdoms come to see the events here.
