Lashawn's Email

This one was hard, I've been struggling with it in the book. I've left it incomplete so that I can add pieces to it as the novel shapes up and I use pieces of it to reveal exposition.

Hey, Squonk!

Sorry it's been a few weeks, but the drama around here has been 'in tents.'

There was a fire a couple weeks ago that did a lot of damage to several homes, and people were literally camping for two or three days while things got repaired.

As usual in Village Life, there was a split over whether this would be a fun adventure or an amazing hassle. Fortunately, the weather was nice and so by the end of it all, fun adventure won over everyone except the grumpiest sour-puss, Catty-nan.

She's such a stubborn old goat, sis, I can't even tell! We are all just beyond frustrated with this woman. One of the gossips said the other day that he wouldn't be surprised if someone pulled an Ellen Allen on her!

I'm pretty sure he was trolling, but it was enough for me to go to Catty-nan and ask her what's holding her back. "Catty-nan," I said, "why don't you want to do the work?"

This woman looked me dead in my face and said "I can't let go until I know my family's going to be ok. Y'all can reach out beyond Avalon. You can check on anyone you left behind."

Girl. Let me tell you, when I say my heart nearly broke in two it was like one of those necklaces we used to get at Claire's!

Sis, there isn't anyone in Avalon with your skill at reaching through the veil and communicating with the other side. There's all kinds of people here, Living and Dead, and they need your help.
