Imperial Palace
The Imperial Palace of the Jasani is an imposing structure built on top of a large hill in the center of Constolba. Surrounded by all of the city's impressive defensive layout, the palace once acted as the seat of government for the Constol monarchy and now houses the Pentarchy and Sulphiate.
Purpose / Function
The structure was originally commissioned by members of the Constol royal family as a seat for their government and a home. Thus its interior contains a number of halls, bedrooms, living areas, a dining chamber, and areas where the rulers could recieve foreign dignitaries and discuss matters of business. It also has many sublevels with various things like servants quarters, dungeons, supply stockpiles, and guards. Much of this was changed when the Jasani came to power. Living areas for visitors was moved to the Embassy while it was decided that the Pentarchs and Sulphiates would merely live in the guarded homes nearby. The only supplies it maintains are as necessary for surviving in case of disaster, and most of the main space is devoted entirely to government operations. From here military strategy is decided, award ceremonies are held, major decisions are made, and meetings with foreign powers occur.
Architecture
Though the Imperial palace is generally considered the most defended place in the world, the Palace itself is actually quite fragile. It is a structure shaped like an H and constructed almost entirely out of wood coated in red plaster. The black roof is disproportionately large and curves upwards from the sides, where eaves extend far beyond the wall and must be supported by load-bearing marble pillars and complex wooden support brackets. More pillars hold the roof up throughout its interior.
The Imperial palace is surrounded by a stone wall and constructed on a large hill, approximately the height of a small mountain, that provides it stability in case of the rare earthquake. The east side of the palace is the main entrance and overlooks much of the city, while the north side features an exquisite garden cultivated for enjoyment of its occupants and the south/west sides have steep cliffs. Encircling it in the distance are 4 free-standing spires called minarets, which once served as symbols of the royalty but now are glorified watchtowers.
