CAPS Round
(Close Activation Phasing Sabot)
Mechanics & Inner Workings
These rounds begin with an armored front, not hardened to penetrate armor but to help prevent the round from being destroyed by hard kill defense systems. The armored shell encased the round for this purpose, with the more complicated mechanism being located at the back of the shell. This entails a hyper discharge battery as well as an onboard computer and sensor system that calculate when exactly to activate. The core of the round is an extremely dense hardened metal sabot. As this is phased through the hull of the enemy vehicle, it does not need to be aerodynamic or sharpened in any way and thus is blunt and as massive as possible to cause maximum damage. The rounds can be calibrated as to how far the sabot will be implanted into the enemy vehicle depending on armor thickness and desired intention, with the general maximum penetration depth being 725mm due to battery and time/distance traveled limitations. The sabot is phased for only a fraction of a second, the interior the round doing all the work required to propel the rod into the enemy before it solidifies again. The shell of the round then slams into the hull of the target vehicle and presumably spalls into myriad fragments. It should be noted that due to the rounds' lack of any explosive charge (these more complicated mechanisms cannot be reliably phased in such a manor), the after-penetration effects are fairly limited, making shot placement paramount. The CAPFS Round was invented later in a partially effective attempt to remedy this issue.
History
In the years after the Saurian entry into Avendora, it became clear that a previously unseen level of advanced weaponry had been brought to every battlefield. The Saurians would commonly use weaponized teleporters or phase shifters that would instantly teleport something like a large, solid metal rod or an explosive package inside an enemy vehicle or craft, effectively dispatching it instantaneously. Opposing forces rushed to counter this tech, and eventually Disruption Fields because commonplace, improving more and more until such teleportation weapons lost most of their effectiveness. The CAPS round was invented to overcome these Disruption Fields.

Rarity
These rounds are fairly common (though not as much as HVAPPS Round due to their greater cost) with their almost exclusive user, the Saurian Empire.
