Mount Kharjha
Purpose / Function
Denizens
There are dedicated priests located within whose sole job is to keep the flames behind the statue's eyes burning, constantly transporting more fuel to be dumped into the fire up and down endless stairs. Memebers of the church beleive that they day these fires go out is the day Varn will be destroyed.
Architecture
The giant head statue was carved out of one of the tallest mountains on Varn, laser cutters and mining drills hewing out the rough shape before artisans were brought in from off-world (no artist on Varn would admit they had such proclivities) to sculpt the finer details. The inside of the massive head bust is actually a complex building that acts as a temple and headquarters for the church. As the church only allows outsiders to enter the main chamber and few other rooms, most of the layout and purpose of the majority of the complex is unkwon to the public. The areas open to the public though are used for either sacrificial chambers where pilgrims can sacrifice animals or even their own lives to appease Kharjha for whatever reason or Kharjhata Candle manufacturing and distribution rooms. The sacrificial chambers usually consist a hole in the ground that goes so deep that one cannot see the bottom. Sacrifices are simply shoved off the edge, still alive, where they then plummet to their deaths. It often takes several minutes before the noise signaling the end of their descent can be heard. There is a rumor that the Church of Kharjha harvests these corpses at the bottom of the pits via secret tunnels and then use the remains to create Kharjhata Candle with even the Saurian biolgical matter, but this has never been confirmed as anyone who would test a candle would never be permitted to acquire one.
