Tortilian (Tore-till-ee-in)
Basic Information
Anatomy
Tortilians are a primarily bipedal, usually green or yellowy skinned race that inhabits an area to the close upper right of the galactic center. Every Tortilan possess a thick, short, powerful beak as well as a large shell that covers their entire back and then some. When in danger, Tortilians will often switch to walking on all fours, their thick chitinous outer shell protecting them from danger. Their leathery skin is also quite resilient, further increasing the Tortilians’ overall endurance. Because of this, combined with the fact that their immune systems are very strong, Tortilians live quite a long time, leading to the older member of their race being covered in draped wrinkles in areas not covered by boney shell. Lastly, Tortilians rely on their gradual power over speed, as their fast twitch muscle fibers are greatly lacking.
Genetics and Reproduction
Tortilians lay large, soft, leathery eggs one at a time which typically hatch after 3-5 months and require a warm, humid environment.
Ecology and Habitats
Similar to Saurians, Tortilians are cold blooded and do not do well in cold environments. Instead, they greatly prefer warm environments and, unlike Saurians, greatly prefer humid environments to dry, though they can live in dry environments as well at the cost of dry skin so long as they apply proper moisturizer.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Vegetables and fruits make up the majority of the Tortilian diet, as meat does not typically induce good reactions with their stomachs. Despite this, richer Tortilians eat meat anyways as a status symbol due to the vast majority of the Tortilian population being quite destitute.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Tortilians have chameleon-like eyes that swivel as if they were the ball turrets on a warship. This allows them to independently pivot their eyes, even in opposite directions at once. Tortilians do not possess any hearing or speech capabilities, though they can still sense general vibrations. They communicate via pheromones detected by their excellent senses of smell as well as a mixture of sign language communicated via both hand motions and jaw, neck, and head movements.
