Carinthi

The shogun is displeased with your actions thus far, Hatomi. You were sent as an ambassador of the Carinthi people to the Draconics of Ziminsi. Now you're returned to us with excuses and nothing to show for it. We need their aid if we hope to keep the Shogunates safe! Or would you rather have us return to wandering the land like our people in the east? Once again without a homeland to call our own?
— Carinthi daimyo speaking to an ambassador

Basic Information

Anatomy

Carinthi appear to be tall and lithe bipedal catfolk. Like other animalfolk, they are digitigrade and as such, they are able to run on all fours should the situation call for it. Unlike the Gattifolk, they are human-sized, preventing any chance for someone to mistake them as a cat, whether small or large. They also have claws that serve as capable weapons when they need to use them.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Carinthi are naturally perceptive and can see in the dark in shades of grey thanks to their cat lineage.

Civilization and Culture

Major Organizations

  • The Mitsu and Otsu Shogunates: The Carinthi were instrumental to the founding of the twin Shogunates and a Carinthi always rules over one of them. With the current threats the Shoguantes face, they have become more fervent in their drive to defend their homeland from any threats.

History

The Carinthi used to refer to both the Gattifolk and the long catfolk that used to reside together. However, the Gattifolk took their current name as a way to distinguish themselves and to move away from their long name: Carinthi Minor. As such, the Carinthi usually refer to the taller catfolk.
Like the Gattifolk, the Carinthi were wanderers that came to Avestra from other lands. However, historians can at least trace where they came from unlike their Gatti cousins. In this case, it's likely the Carinthi came from a landmass south of Edrinia known as Magdros. However, due to the Great Ravine, there is little known about Magdros, even with the arrival of the Loxodon in the current day. Since Carinthi traded in stories in their tribal days, there is only the oral accounts to go off of.

The Carinthi left Magdros after their homeland was taken by outsiders. While it is unknown who these outsiders were due to lost knowledge, their effect is known. Carinthi fled far and wide, spreading to Edrinia and Alus alike through large land and sea caravans. The Carinthi in the east still wander, mostly because it is all that they know though some have been able to settle down. In the west, the Carinthi soon wandered into the Nomi lands where they helped to form the Twin Shogunates along with the Gattifolk and Cat Fera.

For the Carinthi there, they finally had a homeland to call their own once again and even took up leadership in the region. With this new home, they were motivated to not lose it like they did their last one. Even against foes like the Elders, they fought to their last breath to defend their home. And once again, they must do so as they face threats from Aberrations forces rising in Nomi lands, Skuvtun Khanate Orcs attacking from the north and rumors of forces from the continent to their south attacking the Draconics there. And with the rumors of Elder Dragons, their courage is needed more than ever.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

The Carinthi have a pleasant relationship with Gattifolk and Cat Fera. The former has more of a friendly rivalry as the two serve as Shoguns under the Emperor. However, that rivalry has become more malicious as both shogunates face issues at their borders. In the east, Carinthi are seen as another wandering tribe that sometimes arrives in their towns. Due to some Carinthi serving as rogues and thieves, they are sometimes viewed with suspicion within the region.
