Yuan-Ti Pureblood
There is no need to be afraid. I may be of serpent blood but that does not wipe away the human side of me as well. I am not like the others of kin who would shed their humanity and embrace their serpent side to commit more cruel and profane acts. I will do everything in my power to aid you in crossing this great desert, you have my world.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Yuan-Ti Purebloods share a similar appearance to Humans since their humanity hasn't been tainted by the magic they used to splice naga blood into their own. However, they do share several traits of a Naga such as serpent eyes, scales, fangs, and even a resistance to poison as well. As Yuan-Ti become more influenced by that magic, they are no longer purebloods, becoming more serpentine versions of Yuan-Ti.
Genetics and Reproduction
Yuan-Ti who are not purebloods lay eggs for their young. The eggs are always Yuan-Ti of the more human bloodline. Yuan-Ti Purebloods can have children with human and other humanoids, forming offspring based off the lineage of both parents.
Additional Information
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Due to the magic used on them, Yuan-Ti have the ability to see in the dark in shades of grey.
Civilization and Culture
History
The Yuan-Ti used to be humans who resided in the Aerin Valley before the Scorching. They were supposedly followers of spirits known as the Xi'jian, just like the Nagas and Lizardfolk were. The Yuan-Ti say that these spirits took the form of serpents and pushed them in their worship. The greatest act of worship by these humans was the release of a phoenix into Avestra. This phoenix burned the Aerin Valley, leaving a black desert in its wake. The humans who survived from this group were changed by the magic they used, becoming a combination of Human and Naga. Thus, the Yuan-Ti were born.
Some Yuan-Ti were disgusted by what they did and allied with the other survivors to hunt down those who were unrepentant about the devastation they caused. Those tribes were able to escape and hide from their hunters and as the Valley healed, both sides of Yuan-Ti did everything in their power to either bring back the phoenix so it may finish what it started or keep it locked away.
When the Elders came, they upset the balance between the two factions, supporting the phoenix-aligned Yuan-Ti. Now the Yuan-Ti who wish to stop the return of the phoenix must ally with Naga and Lizardfolk, keeping their own people and adventurers alike from finding that portal. Because if that phoenix were returned to Avestra, it might not stop until all of the realm is scorched black as the Xi'jian Desert.
Interspecies Relations and Assumptions
Yuan-Ti who do not follow the old ways are amicable to the other races but have a habit of hiding their faces due to the stigma attached by the evil Yuan-Ti throughout the region. While they mainly stay in the desert, some do leave and head into the Aerin Valley to have lives away from the past decisions of their ancestors.
Yuan-Ti followers of the phoenix are hostile to the other races, especially Humans, Nagas, and Lizardfolk who would dare stop them from completing their goals. As a result, any found in the desert are often killed or captured to be used in ritual sacrifice. There are also Yuan-Ti on the eastern shores of the Jade Coast who serve the Elders instead of the phoenix, advancing their goals by spreading their will where needed.
