Mansion

Headquarters of the Moon Knights

The Mansion is the headquarters of the Moon Knights and its Sub Order Holy Moon Knights, built in the biggest clearing of the Forest of Manos just outside Capritonne, the capital city of the Isle of Months.

The clearing is part of the Mansion's land and is used by the Holy Moon Knights to practice. It is about 1.5km wide and contains a big lake.

Blue Print

The Mansion had originally a main two-story high building, with round windows. Later, two wings, East and West. The East wing houses the Holy Blue Moon Knights and the West, the Holy Green Moon Knights. The ground floor of the main building hosts several of the Squadrons/Batalions' rooms, the cafeteria, map room, meeting room, and common room. The rooms of Generals and some Colonels are on the first floor of the main building, as well as Senior Squadrons' rooms and library. The northeast corner of the Mansion houses the Supreme Commander's quarters, the only part of the main building with a third level and private terrace. The wings are mainly for rooms for Knights and Cadets. The baths are underground.

Rooms worthy of mention

  • Supreme Commander's quarters in the northeast corner
"We stepped through the door into a large, bright room with sophisticated decor: a wall of endless bookcases, a wall of advisers' desks and eccentric paintings, a wall with a flight of stairs, and a luxurious but small kitchen beneath them and a windowed wall. Even with my juvenile dragon in the middle of the room, there was still plenty of space for two other adult dragons and more."
in In Between Times, Chp15

"I was in a bed fit for five people, with the softest sheets I’d ever felt. The giant bed, in turn, was in a huge room where a dragon could fit without grazing the furniture. Furniture which looked like it came out of a luxury decoration catalog, like those sent to Mom from time to time (...). To my right and in front, two sliding doors cut the walls (one to the bathroom, the other to where?). To my left, the wall was made entirely from glass and overlooked a large terrace, also decorated as in the catalogs, which overlooked the forest. (...)I sighed and went to the bathroom to relieve myself and take a shower. I shouldn’t have been surprised by the luxury of this next room, but I was because it was as big as the room I shared with Tonosh! The colors and simple style of the room were still here, it smelled of jasmine, and the spacious shower even had a bench run for a person to sit on while getting water in the face!"
in In Between Lives, Chp13
"I was in a white-washed bedroom. It was a big room but of simple decoration: a bed where I sat, a doorless wardrobe placed in front of me, a chair by the bed next to a crude bedside table, an enormous and glassless round opening for a window on my right side, a door to my left."
in In Between Times, Chp1

"(...)the wardrobe had gained a dark wooden door with floral motifs, and the bed had received a white bedspread all embroidered in fire red."
in In Between Times, Chp69
  • Common room - connects the Mansion to the porch and Clearing
"I immediately found myself in an unexpectedly decorated room: instead of the typical military austerity I found at Esteltonne's headquarters, on the Isle of Night, here the decoration was that of a small palace out of a history book, with an exaggeration of paintings, vases, woodwork and craftwork details, crystal-laden chandeliers, stately armchairs... Even the aroma of the Mansion was more of an old family house with a lot of tradition than that of a military barracks."
in In Between Times, Chp13
  • Squadron I021's room - 3 desks, prizes and newspaper clippings of solved cases displayed on the walls, one window
  • Kitchens
  • Training underground room

Architecture

"A big house with architected oval windows, a giant clearing inside the Forest of Manos, and, moreover, a wide clearing with a lake in it. There was only one clearing with a lake in the forest, and in that clearing, there was only one house: the Mansion. But there was something strange about it. I forced my mind to discern it through the fog taking it. The Mansion I knew had two wings, one on each side of the main facade. The clearing was always filled with knights training at this hour. A beautiful statue stood by the lakeside entrance.  This Mansion had none of that. Or should I be saying this Mansion had none of that yet."
