Palace of the Zodiac

Government building of the Isle of Months where lives the Lanus Divine Family.

Architecture

The Palace of the Zodiac was also more beautiful at night, with white and bluish lights highlighting the vaulted arches of the countless windows and doors, the straight lines of the stairs and its four levels, the summer terrace gardens, the fountains of the marble patios, the details designed in bronze, the three blue domes on the roof. The white palace, built two hundred years before, combined the traditional Monthian curves with the rectitude of justice that was its banner. Only the touches of green that embellished the marble stone denounced my aunt's delicacy, the queen, on an island of unshakable judges.   Annual Promenade: every hundred feet or so, two twin statues stood on each side of the path, symbolizing the months of the island's year, starting, of course, with the Aries statues, two ram heads marked with a symbol similar to the V letter or two horns. The statues were decorated according to the element they belonged to, like fire for Aries and earth for Taurus, and at their feet rested countless offerings. Cardinal signs even had knights' cloaks as offerings. Obviously, the most imposing statues were those of Capricorn, the month of the king and the capital. Past the statues of Pisces, the path opened into a huge garden in front of the palace.   Inside, the walls had been artfully torn open into windows to the beautiful lounge; outside, bronze door vaults had been crafted with wavy motifs, interspersed pillars, and walls designed in round, yet pointed patterns. The central corridor that led away from the semicircle was a succession of vaulted arches, and there wasn't a single part of the ceiling, floor, or walls that wasn't crafted in hypnotic patterns. The corridor opened into another room, not as imposing as the one at the entrance, but no less beautiful. From the ceiling opened another small white vault that was not visible from the outside of the palace and lighted the floor and the circle of balconies on the floor above us.
