The Unbound
Since the issuing of the Act of Solace, and the establishment of the Sanguine Tower, there have always been those who strive against it. The current band of renegade casters, tower escapees, and misguided sympathizers call themselves the Unbound, and are proud of their status as uncontrolled magic users.
The Unbound have no recognized, official leadership. They are a conglomeration of independent groups spread throughout Polira. As such, they are not terribly organized or united in their goals. Some wish to burn down the Sanguine Tower and salt the ashes, others call for the full overthrow of the Poliran monarchy. Some want the monopoly on Aspium to be broken. None of them seem to have a plan as to what happens after these actions are taken. It is a wonder that they even agreed upon a single name for themselves.
Each cell within the Unbound is free to act of their own will, in whatever way they think is correct. As such, there are degrees of fanaticism and lunacy within the network. Some work on contacting new casters before they are discovered by the Sanguine Tower. Others devote themselves to studying the damaged hand flowers that some escapees have brought with them, seeking their weaknesses for a full assault on the Tower's control. Some have attempted to hijack shipments of Aspium for the group's use, and have even succeeded on occasion.
The decentralized nature of the Unbound, however, is one of the reasons it is the longest lasting rebel group to take a stand against the Crown and Tower. The rare sucesses in obtaining Aspium also play a large part. But they will, in time, be subdued like all the others. Part of the Blood Guard's duties includes hunting down these rebel cells and delivering any casters to the Tower.
