Dark Elf

The Dark Elves, also known as the Dark Eladrin, or the Drow, are a species of Elves that originated from the elven homeworld of Anon Suramur, having fled from there when the Sundered came and conquered their planet tens of millennium ago.   The history of the Drow on Azure is an ill fated one. Having arrived with the rest of the elven peoples from their Darkships, they settled in a dreary land south of the Gap that reminded them of there old lands on the homeworld; the Sun rarely shined past the constant overcast, and the nights were long. They called this land the princedom of Anon Landylon, and thrived there for many years until the coming of the Vaskerry.   The Tribes of Vaskerry are as diverse as they are plentiful, and it would be the human tribe of Lydes that would be the downfall of the Drow princedom. Have arranged for betrayal from within, the royal family of Anon Landylon was butchered by their royal guard, allowing for the Vaskerry to invade in hundreds of longships, quickly conquering the confused Drow. From then forward, the realm was renamed Landis, and the Drow were considered second class citizens. Many fled below ground into the Ways, causing a cultural divide in the race that has lasted to this day; The Drow Above and the Drow Below. The Drow Above was further divided between those that fled into the wilderness, the Wildlanders, and those that stayed in their homes, City Drow.   When the Second Apocalypse occurred many drow fought alongside the other races at refuge, but no word was heard from the Drow Below. Once victory occurred, City drow were granted equal rights due to the New god the Nightcaller having been a drow himself. Since then, City Drow have spread throughout the world, while Wildlanders stay to the deeps of the wilderness, and the Drow below only emerge when they raid for supplies and slaves.   Physiology Most Drow have red, glowing eyes with skin tones varying from somewhat greenish and the more common gray to the occasional light blue and purple, and hair that ranges from pitch black to silver white. They are known to be strong, intelligent, and quick, however, they are also said to be ill favored by fate. Both male and female Drow have a height similar to most of the human races. This makes them taller than wood elves, yet shorter than high elves.   Culture Drow Above - The Drow Above is Divided between City Drow and Wildlander Drow. City Drow have fully integrated with the other races, though they sometimes retain traces of their original culture, maintaining shrines to their ancestors in their homes.   Wildlander Drow live in camps of small, mobile huts, herding Moorbounders, and hunting wildlife for meat and hides. Wildlanders claim it is their right to raid settlements and other tribes for plunder and slaves. The Wildlanders worship their ancestors and are led by their warchiefs, and are counseled by the arcane wisdom and prophecies of their wise women.   The Wildlander culture is an anachronistic survival of the ancestor worshiping tribal culture from which the original princedom emerged. They see the worship of living Drow as an abomination.   Drow Below - the Drow below is what many surfacers image when thinking about the drow in general. No better than Vaskerry raiders, plundering surface settlements for slaves and gold. What surfacers dont realize is that the Drow below is one of the few things, besides the dwarves, keeping the Sundered in check in the Ways. While the War of the Second Fall is over for most races, it has never been over the the Drow Below. Centered on their capital of Tor Untercroft, known in common as the Underspire, they have spread over much of the world below ground, forge a large empire based on martial prowess, both to raid, and also to fight off the ever present Sundered. They are ruled by the original Great Houses from their original homeworld, and above them is their queen Lyllvanis, the last surviving member of the royal family of Anon Landylon. While foreigners within the Underspire are granted the protection of hospitality, those that venture within the Ways themselves are free game for slavers unless they bear the queens mark. They worship there queen like a living god, something the Wildlanders find distasteful.
