Elves
Current Month: Julwar 2nd: 209, The Fifth Age
Elves are a foreign people to the world of Azure, having first arrived over a thousand years ago on great void sailing ships called darkships.
Terminology
The term Elf originates from the old Tremalker (Old Common) word for "Other", but the Elves refer to themselves as the Eladrin, or "The People" in their home tongue. Some people think that Eladrin refers to some subspecies but it is in fact a general term for all Elf kind.
History
The Eladrin originate from a world on the far side of the cosmos called Anon Suramur, or "Land of the Lily-Flower".
It was once a place of arcane wonder and might, of impossible buildings and beautiful art and peotry. However, like many places in the Universe, the Sundered came, and brought death and Ruin to their world.
Knowing that they had no hope of defeating the countless minions of the nongod, they used their wonderous magics to construct city sized ships called Craftworlds, and evacuated as much of their populations as they could. Fleeing their homeworld, they spent countless millennium sailing the Void between stars, looking for new homeworlds or places of refuge.
Many settled on found worlds, like the Shadar-Kai-Kai on the volcanic planet of Shadar-nir-nir, but the Sundered was always not far behind.
Eventually, the Elaldrin found a small world on the far side of the Universe that reminded them of an Azure marble. Landing on the continent of Midway, then known as Middos, they discovered a primitive tribal species of Humanoids.
Showing them the basics of science and art, these peoples grew to admire the Eladrin and emulated their styles and cultures, these people are the ancestors of modern day Serks.
Some of the Eladrin chose to settle Azure, others opted to stay on their craftworlds and harvest resources for their eventual exodus in the wake of the coming Sundered. Those that colonized the deep forests of Azure formed the first princedoms of the Elves, small enclaves that while the natives believed to be kingdoms, were in actuallity just resource gathering outposts. These collected resources would then be shipped on darkships back to the craftworlds, while they continued their journey across the stars.
Many of these colony elves came into conflict with the natives. The Dark Elves of Anon Landylon were conquered by the Lydes Tribe of Vaskerry, forming the new kingdom of Landis, and the Noldor Princedom waged war against their aggressive neighbor Agaden's Reach, who conquered the city of Caer Selemon, which was actually the Noldor's Darkship, effectively stranding them.
Much changed when the Sundered finally arrived. Many elves still able fled back to the Craftworlds, while those left behind had no choice but to stand and fight alongside the natives. The Noldor formed a piece with the Agadenians when under the guidance of the Knights of Harmony, the Agadenians saved the Noldor Princedom from annihilation from the Sundered. The Drow Above under the leadership of the still mortal Nightcaller rallied to the Refuge, City of Mists to help with its defenses. Many others also followed suit.
After the Second Fall, craftworld Elves once again began to colonize Azure, but this time with the intention to stay for good. Those that chose to remain on the craftworlds continue to sail the gargantuan ships to this day, in hopes of finding a world of their own. Darkships still carry passengers from the Craftworlds, but do not allow colony Elves to return.
Description
Elves stood on average 5′4″‒6′0″ (1.6‒1.8 m) and weighed 130‒170 lb (59‒77 kg). Usually, true Elves were a naturally slender and athletic race. Elves had a similar range of complexions to humans, with Wood Elves typically coppery or pale skinned and Wild Elves having darker pigmentation.
Often, Elven hair was dark, either brown or black, with copper red or blond hair also found amongst Wood Elves, although orange or even green hues were not completely unheard of. Elven eyes are commonly brown, hazel, or an emerald green. Elves were fair and beautiful, handsome, and had pointed ears and no body hair except eyebrows, eyelashes, and hair.
Elves matured at roughly the same rate as Humans, though they were not usually considered past adolescence until they reached 110 years of age. Unlike Humans, Elves do not age dramatically as their lifespan comes to a close, with the most obvious changes being a change in hair color, alternatively graying or darkening.
Most Elves remain healthy and full of life up until their death, which, if age-related, was usually between two and nine centuries.
Abilities
Elves have a number of abilities that set them apart from other humanoid races. Elves are agile, dexterous creatures. Elves were also preternaturally aware of their surroundings, as well as possessing better common sense. This aids them in many ways, allowing Elves a high degree of perceptiveness that they could lend partially to allies.
Additionally, Elves are extremely accurate in their attacks, having a degree of precision that would be unusual for other humanoids.
Resting
Many elves do not sleep, instead finding their rest in a meditative state called "reverie", which was as restful as true sleep but left them aware of their surroundings.
Personality
Elves commonly possess strong but swiftly passing passions, being moved easily to laughter, anger, or misery, and as quickly calmed. They were known for their impulsive behavior and, as a result, many races see them as flighty or impetuous.
However, Elves are not as flaky as others might interpret them to be, and they are typically responsible despite their almost whimsical nature. Partially due to their long lifespan (though not entirely, since many long-lived races acted differently), Elves have difficulty taking some matters as seriously as other races, but when threats they recognize do arise, Elves are strong friends and allies to those they were loyal to.
Elves tend to make strong and uplifting friends. Most love simple joys such as dancing, singing, footraces, or contests of skill. They have a natural aversion to that which they saw as uninteresting tasks and were fun-loving by nature. However, despite how unpleasant some things, such as war, could be, Elves become grimly serious if a threat to their friends, family, or livelihood make such actions necessary.
Society
There were three different societies for modern Elves; the Craftworld elves, the Darkship Elves, and the colonial elves.
Craftworld Elves - Not much is known about Craftworld Elves by the peoples of Azure, only that they only left the craftworld when they had no intention of returning; this was usually due to the individuals deciding to settle on a world for good. It is assumed that besides this Craftworld Elves have a similar society to colonial elves.
Darkship Elves - The Supply lines for the craftworlds, Elves crewing Darkships were allowed both to land planetside, and on the Craftworlds themselves. This was required due to the Craftworlds' need for raw materials. However, no colonial elf was allowed to crew a Darkship, their crews comprising solely of former Craftworld elves.
Colonial Elf - Also called Azurian Elves, these are the Eladrin who chose to remain planetside to build homes and lives for themselves. Founding Princedoms throughout the world and integrating into native societies, it is this culture of Elves most people are familiar with. Colonials are never allowed to return to their Craftworlds.
