The Moors

"If all the world were like this, it would be like the heavens come true."
The Moors is a large fertile peninsula on the southern end of the continent of Midway that was founded in the middle Third Age.   Located to the south of the Manacar Mountain Range and north of the South Sea, the loose confederation of mostly isolated Halfling villages possesses a rich and highly fertile soil, which always brings in bountiful harvests year after year. For this reason, most of its inhabitants are farmers, and The Moors is one of the main providers of food for the Midway Princedoms and the Indus.   The Moors is predominantly inhabited by a race of short humanoids called Halflings. Roughly half the size of a fully grown man, Halflings are a peaceful and rustic folk, more interested in the comforts of home than adventures and warfare.   Sitting on perhaps the most fertile farmland in the world, The Moors is a land of gently rolling hills and grasslands that slopes upward gradually until the land rises into the Moorish Massives that bisects the peninsula, where farmers raise many famous varieties of tobacco.   Most of the land is open, with scattered copses of oak, beech, elm, and willow along the riverbanks. The only two forests of note are the Tired Man's Wood and the mysterious Southwood.   While the land is watered by a dozen rivers that run out of the Massives, sufficient rainfall waters the land to guarantee regular and good crops throughout the Moors. The Moors is divided into four major regions, five if you listen to some Halflings.   Some might wonder why the Moors hasn't been invaded since its fields are so bountiful; there are two reasons for this; the first is the Halflings trade and ship food worldwide for more than a fair price, making the cost of occupying the land not worth the effort for many nations. Second, it is under the protection of the Saamraaj of Indus, due to the efforts of the legendary Halfling adventure Janalae Pipeblower, whose rescue of the Raaji earned the Moors the amazon-like islands' protection in exchange for a reasonable amount of Moorish harvest each year.   Regions of the Moors   The West Hills - Largest village is Greenfield. Known for their friendly attitudes, even amongst Halfling kind. They grow specialty crops in this region.   The Eastern Farthlings - largest village is the Trywater. Known for producing the best beer in the entire Moors. Also known for their fishing industry.   The South Plains - largest village is Longshire. Various ranches herd livestock on these lands. They also have a large textile industry.   The Northern Reaches - largest town is Fairfield. It is here where most staple crops are grown; wheat, barley, corn, potatoes, etc.   The Massives - Largest village is Deep Delving. Many do not consider this to be a region, that it should be divided amongst the rest. Known for the potent tobacco grown on its slopes.
