Ethan Ambrose

Played by: Asterinomous

A drifter and a person without any roots to speak of, Ethan was the thinnest of Thin Bloods of the rarest line of Kindred: the Salubri. Ridiculed even by the other thin bloods for his humanity and on his own for most of his mortal and undead life, Ethan is used to surviving on his own and doesn't take kindly to the implication that anyone needs to 'look after him' as one would a child.   After a chance meeting with the Heirophant Andrew Leakey, Ethan became his Childe, and subject to all the torment that such a thing entails.    He survived, and upon going through the Gate of Blood was reborn as a Child of Osiris. His adoptive sire is unaware of this, believing that Ethan is a true Setite, and Ethan is keeping this information to himself.

Physical Description

Identifying Characteristics

Like most Salubri, Ethan has the Third Eye upon his forehead, which he only covers with his hair (admittedly an awful way to hide it, but Ethan is too vain to wear a headband all the time).

Special abilities

Once a thin blood, Ethan was an amateur alchemist. However with the diablerie of his sire he has lost his alchemy talents but has instead gained access to the disciplines that alluded him for so long - his reembrace at the hands of Osiris have given him even more power, causing him to jump from thin blood to 12th generation to 5th generation.

Apparel & Accessories

Wearing mostly casual, washed-nearly-to-rags clothes, Ethan is a fan of tank tops with distressed skinny jeans.   He wears a pair of dog tags constantly, tucking them beneath his shirt and just recently added a gold locket given to him by Robin Lutece to the tags.   Finally, Ethan is a thrill seeker, but not stupid. He always wears thick boots, a leather jacket, and a helmet when riding his motorbike.

Specialized Equipment

Ethan is a tattooist, and carries around his needles and ink with him nigh constantly - it's how he makes most of his money.   He also carries surgical syringes for harvesting blood so he can eat. He siphons the blood out while his victim is sleeping and empties into a Thermos for him to drink.

Personal history

Florida Man ain't got shit on the people Ethan Ambrose's father would represent. Scum, all of them, in Ethan's humble opinion. They certainly weren't accused of doing nice things, and in most cases actually had done what they were accused of (Ethan heard them talking to his dad). But still, Mr. Ambrose would take them. Sometimes even the mob cases that would come off. He was good, there was no doubt, but Ethan was disgusted by his father's lack of morals. This, combined with the pressure to grow up to be 'just like your father,' combined with seeing his father's consistent cheating on their mother, drove Ethan away from home before he was even eighteen.   He hitchhiked for a long time. Made some friends, made some enemies. Eventually he stopped at a tattoo shop in Brighton, Alabama, to get his third piece of ink. Ethan was broke, of course, doing handiwork where he could find it and scrimping and saving just to get his next bus pass or meal voucher, but the owner of the shop was impressed with the design Ethan had drawn for his artist and offered to have Ethan stay on as an apprentice. Ethan was more than happy to oblige. He stayed in Brighton for four years, buying himself a motorcycle and becoming a well-regarded artist in the area.   But Ethan got antsy, and soon he was off again, this time with the skills and career under his belt to never starve again.   When he was twenty-six is when everything went downhill: he met a man at a bar by the name of Jonah. Jonah was cute, they flirted, Jonah bought them drinks, and then everything went hazy. Ethan had never been roofied before, but Jonah did more than drug the poor man: he drained him and (maybe) panicking, (maybe) feeling remorse, fed the dying Floridian some of his blood.   Ethan woke up with the worse hangover he'd ever had, aborted fangs, a heart that still pumped blood (albeit it flowed like molasses through his veins), and hole like a bullet wound on his forehead. He was a vampire. A shitty vampire, but a vampire nonetheless.   It was rough going at first, but thankfully he managed to hit a few Anarch cities by pure luck in his first few months and they were kind enough to teach him a thing or two. He avoided Camarilla cities after that. He didn't always get lucky, however.   An elder was building up their collection of thin bloods, having grown too old to subsist on humans, and raided the thin blood hostel Ethan was staying in. The find was so rare that the Cam elder decided against taking Ethan with the rest of the thin bloods they had collected to be branded and tagged, afraid that their Prince would claim the Salubri as tribute. It was the opportunity, with the elder gone to the Prince with their herd for tagging, for one of the trusted thin blood servants of the elder to sneak Ethan out. Ethan ran and never looked back.

Now he knew better. He never stayed for more than a week, constantly on the move, but he never saw it as a burden. It was freedom. Freedom to do whatever he wanted, when he wanted. Freedom from the life of a second class citizen that would have been forced on him if he ever made anywhere his permanent home. But that was before Baltimore.   Ethan had hooked up with a trio of other thin bloods: Jay, Allan, and Anna. Unlike him, they were closer to full vampires than not, and mocked him constantly for his near-human biology. Still Ethan was lonely, and he tolerated their jests for the safety and company. But it was not to last.   Allan was killed in a botched feeding frenzy (Ethan was left behind), and in the aftermath Ethan discovered that Allan had hidden his tattooing kit back at the motel in the city as a prank. Leaving the two remaining vampires, Ethan travelled back into the city and was attacked by the rampaging mages, forced to seek the hospital for medical attention and catching the eye of Feargál Ó Rodagh, a Malkavian doctor who knew Ethan for what he was. Feargál, or Wolfgang, convinced Ethan to stay for long enough to talk with Ben Akkerman, a Salubri living in the city.   Hopeful to meet another of his kind, Ethan agreed.   Meeting Ben was not all he hoped it would be, however. Ben and Wolfgang both insisted that he put himself under one of the full-blooded Kindred's care - become their Childe. It was an insult, spitting in the face of the independence and self-sufficiency that Ethan had built his identity on. He refused, leaving shortly afterwards.   Before leaving town, he met the Malkavian Caitiff Alex Quick, whom he had a brief romance with that delayed his departure from town. The two soon broke it off, however, finding that their priorities were too different.   Ethan was about to leave town again when he met Robin Lutece, a shy and innocent Tremere who Ethan quickly grew fond of. Their romance is just as short as Alex's and Ethan's, but they get along far better.   During this time, Ethan and Robin were kidnapped by the Setite Heirophant, Andrew Leakey. Leakey threaten and cajoled Ethan into accepting him as a Sire and forced Ethan to drink his blood. Now Ethan is stuck, unable to leave.   This is why he never gets involved.   The next few months were torture. Long periods of boredom, unable to leave the temple, interspersed with periods of extreme psychological torment as Andrew dragged Ethan through the Gates - the religious trials of the Setites. Ethan resisted every step of the way, but was too weak to break the grasp Andrew had over him.   His second to last gate, the Gate of Ignorance, was a special one. Andrew had somehow found and captured Ethan's sire, Jonah Maebrich. Jonah turned out to be a disappointment - even more so than Ben. He had only Embraced Ethan so Ethan would kill him in his hunger frenzy, but had chickened out and left Ethan there... to survive alone.   It broke Ethan's spirit, more than anything else, to know that he was nothing more than a tool for his sire's own destruction. And a tool that was cast aside at that even its creator had no use for.   Jonah's Third Eye had already been torn out, most likely by Andrew, and Ethan assumed that if he did not kill Jonah, that Andrew would. And most likely torture him to death. So Ethan did the most human thing he could think of: drained Jonah himself. Diablerised him so the Kiss would ease his death. Finally a full Salubri, Ethan reached his darkest point. He didn't care what happened anymore - the only thing that gave him a light at the end of the tunnel, a hope that he could one day be human again, was snuffed out.   He spent a month wallowing in his own misery, mourning his lost humanity, when Andrew finally called him for his last gate: the Gate of Blood, the reembrace as a full Setite.   Descending into the Duat, Ethan was met with the god Anubis, a Garou who led him to the palace of Osiris, king of the dead. It was revealed that Ethan had been born, molded, to be a light in the dark. A healer for the broken. A friend to the downtrodden.    His heart was weighed against the Feather of Ma'at, and he was found worthy - a true Setite would have been found wanting, or rejected Osiris' offer to move on in peace. But Ethan was not given the offer to move on. Osiris even said he regretted what he would have to do.   Osiris drained the Salubri, and fed his own vitae to Ethan. He reembraced the Salubri as one of his own childer, the warriors of light against Sutekh's offspring, and sent him back.   Andrew has no idea his childe has become his mortal enemy, and is pleased at Ethan's progress - Ethan, renewed with hope and determination, has told him nothing of his experience in the Duat.

Sexuality

Bisexual, though he leans much more towards guys than girls.

Failures & Embarrassments

During his first few nights in Baltimore, Ethan discovered his 'friends' had planned to sell him off to a Tremere in the city. His trust betrayed, Ethan has closed himself off even more from meaningful relationships.

Morality & Philosophy

Even before his death, Ethan was resigned to the life of a firework: burning bright and burning fast.   He lives like each day is his last and moves constantly, to avoid being tied to a life he doesn't want. But he is also caring and kind, wanting to make each person's life better than when they met. He doesn't keep in touch, but Ethan is always thinking about them.   Ethan had made peace with death. He hoped it's quick, painless, and in the arms of someone beautiful.   Osiris' reembrace has renewed his fighting spirit - he no longer fears death, but he will fight to keep on living, now having the power to back up his right.

History

Ethan and Robin are an odd pair: the Salubri  and the Tremere. But Robin is a wholly innocent and sweet, and Ethan can't resist a pretty face.   After Andrew's forceful induction of the pair into the Church of Set, Ethan blames himself for their position, as it was his status as a Cyclops that drew Leakey's eye towards the couple. Andrew even dug one of Robin's eyes out to convince Ethan to take him in.   Ethan doesn't do long term relationships, but he feels responsible for Robin and so continues to care for her. He's not ready to call it love, however.

Nicknames & Petnames

Ethan calls Robin 'Ro' quite often. He also calls her 'his girl,' but balks at more familiar terms such as 'girlfriend.'

History

Ethan should have known better than to stick around Baltimore. But he was stupid and he enjoyed the company of Alex Quick and Robin Lutece too much and hung around too long.   Andrew caught on to the fact there was a Salubri in town and took advantage, pouncing on and pressuring the thin blood into a blood bond. Ethan loathes Andrew and finds him a repulsive, duplicitous, and evil vampire. Andrew couldn't care less, instead interested in raising up the neonate into a proper Salubri and Setite.

History

Alex and Ethan's relationship was almost dead before it began. While Alex is as wild and free as one could dream of, Ethan is appalled at his lack of tact or morality. He likes Alex. He just can't bring himself to condone or partake in Alex's shenanigans.
