Angela Martinelli

Angela Martinelli (a.k.a. Angie)

Angie never manages to be an actress. The two have a house together in Syracuse, New York and an place in DC for Peggy's work. Post-retirement they let that place go in favor of spending half their time at Stark Mansion and Half in their own home.   Angie spends a lot of time working with Jim Morita to help their lovers and with Ana Jarvis making the Stark Home a home.   Every year on her birthday, Peggy Carter sets aside 5 minutes at the exact time she was born to be entirely with Angie.  Its a tradition Peggy managed to keep all the years they've been together, even as friends.     Angie dies Sept 10, 2001, this world's version of 9-11, within a few minutes of her birthday kiss. She manages to push Peggy to safety as she does so.

Personal history

Angie Martinelli worked in L&L Automat, a restaurant in New York City, as a waitress. Seeking to become an actress, she auditioned for many roles, including the part of Betty Carver in The Captain America Adventure Program but did not receive the role, losing it to Arlene French. Martinelli served Peggy Carter her dinner one night when a returning veteran harassed her about the food he had gotten. The next day, the same customer harassed Martinelli, even slapping her on the behind when she went to change his order. Peggy Carter then threatened the veteran with a fork in his chest. The veteran then left the restaurant leaving Martinelli a good tip. Martinelli gets Peggy Carter an interview at the Griffith Hotel for undercover assignment and Martinelli insisted that Carter live with her when she saw her looking for a place to stay.  When Angie hit a spy with a frying pan for entering their apartment without permission, Peggy thought she should stay.   They became lovers in 1952, a month before Peggy knew she was pregnant.  Angie and Peggy continued to live together as friends and then lovers throughout their lives. At some point, they start a routine where on the minute Angie was born each year, Peggy kisses her and thanks her for being born.   Howard’s influence had been instrumental in shielding Peggy from the anti-lesbian, anti-feminism craze of the 50s and 60s. He argued that the woman most famous for her romance with Captain America wasn’t lesbian and could live in a house with another woman without having sex. While Peggy had secretly supported many pro-lesbian groups, including the Furies, on a professional level she and Angie were simply best friends. Following the Kowalski trial, they made the transition to being out, though Peggy naturally avoided the limelight as part of her career.

Social

Family Ties

Angie is one of 13 children and as such always felt lost and overlooked in her family, especially since she'd never been interested in marrying and raising a new generation of the family.  Instead, she was a second mother to Peggy's children and 'Grandma Angie' to Peggy's grandchildren.  In fact, given their mother's career, Peggy's children usually communicate with Angie instead of Peggy.
