Earl Ivan Wreath
Ivan Wreath was Earl of
the Rush, in southern Springmore, in the latter half of the tenth century. He married the daughter of a wealthy commoner,
Margaret Thetch, and sired three children:
Charlotte,
Nathaniel, and
Kristine. His two daughters would marry high earls, representing a vast ascent in status and power for his house, usually credited to his wife.
Appearance and Character
Ivan was not known for his political mind, and he was never interested in managing the realm, though he was no more incompetent than most earls. He left a great deal of ruling to his very able wife. Nevertheless, he was respected by his people and is remembered favourably by his children.
Ivan's greatest challenge came in the form of invasion from
Richard of Dregonvell, who claimed Ivan's liege
Ambrose Brawnby had promised the Rush to him. In the face of insurmountable odds, Ivan put up an admirable fight. Richard reached Ivy Hall, but the Wreaths were spared when he died of fever in his camp. His heir,
Edward, ended the war, and married Ivan's oldest daughter, Charlotte, as reparation for his father's belligerance.
