Tundra Pigeons
Kmúþic: Nuróbþe Akmax /nʏːroupθɛː aːkhmaks/
Tundra pigeon1 is the common name for several bird species found throughout the Southlands in southern Borgalor, related to fruit doves of the tropical continent of Örkraz but well adapted to the long winters and overall cold climate of their antarctic home.
Though they vary in size and ability to fly, all tundra pigeon species have certain traits in common, such as having feathered feet to protect them from frostbite, producing crop milk to feed their young, and the males have crests on their beaks and sport colourful plumage during mating season. Some are migratory, particularly the smaller species, while the largest ones in the hinterlands survive the winter through a mixture of fat reserves and innate ability to use fire magic to shield themselves from blizzards. The latter can also defend themselves by inflicting burns by pecking and scratching their foes.
Notable species include the giant-, crested-, and speckled tundra pigeons.

Additional Information
Uses, Products & Exploitation
Tundra pigeons, particularly the larger, flightless ones, are one of the most common prey animal of the Trolls native to the Southlands, and have been hunted by the various people that have settled the coastal regions of the continent, the latter which has lead to certain species' population to decline or -in the case of the ruddy tundra pigeon- become extinct.
Two notable exceptions are the speckled- and blue-headed species, which have adapted well enough to life in urban areas in Rúþría that their populations have multiplied, and are commonly eaten in countries such as Fjún, Númra and Tos Q'eillen, often in the form of pigeon pies.
