Wyrm

Overview

Wyrms are a lesser species of dragon, known for their fearsome presence despite lacking the intelligence and majesty of true dragons. They are powerful creatures with distinct physical traits and elemental abilities, making them formidable opponents. Their low intelligence makes them more beast-like in their actions, driven by instinct rather than cunning.

Appearance

Wyrms have long, serpentine bodies covered in tough scales. They possess strong, clawed arms and large wings for flight, but they lack hind legs, giving them a snake-like appearance. Their draconic heads are equipped with sharp teeth and piercing eyes. Wyrms often display vibrant colors that reflect their elemental nature, such as shades of blue, green, or gold.

Behavior

Wyrms are territorial creatures, fiercely protective of their domains. They are often found in remote, hard-to-reach places such as deep forests, high mountains, or hidden caves. Unlike their dragon kin, wyrms do not typically seek out wealth or amass large hoards. Instead, they are more focused on maintaining their territory and ensuring their survival.   Wyrms are not as intelligent as true dragons, but they are cunning predators. They often use their elemental abilities to ambush prey or defend against intruders. Wyrms are solitary creatures, usually only coming together to mate. However, some wyrms have been known to form symbiotic relationships with other creatures, offering protection in exchange for food or other resources.

Abilities

Wyrms are dangerous in combat, using a combination of physical strength and elemental powers. They have breath weapons similar to true dragons but generally less powerful. Unlike true dragons, wyrms are not intelligent enough to cast spells.
  • Breath Weapon: Each wyrm has a unique breath weapon, such as lightning, fire, or poison gas, based on their elemental affinity.
  • Flight: Their powerful wings enable them to fly, making them versatile and deadly in various terrains.
  • Draconic Understanding: Wyrms can understand and speak Draconic but only converse with other dragons, shunning alliances with other races.

Relationship with Dragons

True dragons often view wyrms with a mixture of disdain and curiosity. While they recognize wyrms as distant kin, they see them as lesser beings, lacking the power and intelligence that define dragonkind. Some dragons may even use wyrms as servants or guardians, exploiting their territorial nature to protect their own lairs.
