Protectorate of Sabeth
The Protectorate of Sabeth occupies the south-east half of the island of Harani in the Golden Sea. It's a domain under the protection of the High Solar of the Sun Kingdom, established during the later year of the Taurian Wars.
Structure
Sabeth is ruled by a Crown-Prince, semi-independent but under the protection of the Sun Kingdom. The Crown-Prince title is passed down through the royal bloodline, and ultimately the Crown-Prince is the main authority in matters of state and military. They are still symbolically subordinate to the Priesthood of the Sun Kingdom faith, as they have to confirm the crown-prince at each coronation.
History
The island of Harani had its own independent Kingdom, mostly formed by Uraoi people with a number of Heloi and Pharsoi among them. Harani was a nation of peaceful trade, and one of the few nations in the world where slavery was illegal. They were a prosperous nation, and despite their small size, they had enough wealth to rival many greater kingdoms.
In the year 528, however, the ever-expanding Taurian Kingdom launched an unprovoked invasion, hoping to annex the wealthy kingdom in its growing domain. Harani fleet was defeated in the Battle of the Horn, and the hope of preventing a land battle was crushed. When the Taurian troops made landfall into the north of the Island, the Harani king, in a desperate move, accepted the offered help of the Sun Kingdom. The Sun Kingdom troops arrived at the capital in term to help defend it from the Taurian assault, and a long siege started. The Taurians had to constantly fight to dispute the land outside the city with the Solari and Harani forces, and their line of supplies was often attacked at sea by Solari galleys. Eventually Taurians had to give up the siege, but being still too numerous to be fought off the Island, the Sun Kingdom and the Taurian Kingdom signed the Treaty of Har-Kai, which split the island of Harani in half. Infuriated, the Harani king accused the High Solar of betraying their alliance and demanded the treaty to be destroyed and the war to continue until the Taurians were fully expelled of the island. The High Solar, to prevent the treaty from being dishonored, had his men in the capital arrest the Harani king, and sat his younger son in the throne as 'Crown-Prince', after he swore himself to the Sun Kingdom. With this, the Kingdom of Harani was no more and the Protectorate of Sabeth was born.
