Trolls

Trolls are large humanoid-shaped creatures with fey and giant origins that exist primarily upon the material plane. They take many shapes due to their habitat and their bloodline. Most trolls are quite a bit larger and stronger than most mortals and have some level of magical abilities, either passive or active, available to them. Contrary to popular belief, trolls do not possess regenerative powers but they are resistant to most forms of magical and physical damage and can heal from wounds rather quickly outside of combat.

Anatomy

Trolls are humanoid in form though most times much larger than a standard human or even a goliath.

Biological Traits

Lifespan and life expectancy are hard to place for most trolls as they are often hunted in Binordheim, but it is rumored that some can live for hundreds of years or more if left alone.

Genetics and Reproduction

Trolls were first born of fey hags (leading them to be referred by some as "troll-mothers" or "troll-wives") and most trolls are still born of hags, but trolls can reproduce with one another leading to pockets of troll civilizations independent of their fey mothers.

Growth Rate & Stages

Trolls grow at a rapid rate, especially hill trolls, and in some cases outgrow their own homes. They are often likened to goldfish who grow to match their habitat. This can be a great detriment for those trolls who are extremely susceptible to sunlight when they cannot find a shelter large enough to hide them.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Dependant on the species of troll, they often have an incredible sense of smell and superior darkvision, but most are sensitive to sunlight. Some trolls are even believed to have a special sense for precious metals such as the hill troll and rock troll.

Most mortal races have learned to fear and distrust trolls (including trollkin in some places), making it difficult for any troll to have a positive relationship with them even if it wanted to.
