Achaean Alliance

The largest and most populous nation in Caphollia, the Achaean Alliance is a confederation of four separate nations under a banner of economic and military alignment. Formed in the 7th century, Achaea became the first significant human country to establish itself, beginning with the large city of Torinswell. Torinswell was a city-state that grew rapidly after its founding in 562 due to economic and military power, and along with the nearby city-states of Cherton, Stadeler, and Jaylesh, they formed the nation known as Achaea.

After combining their economies, natural resources, and populations, the new nation of Achaea expanded exponentially, dwarfing other neighboring human nations that were also taking shape nearby. Threatened by Achaea's large influence and power, the nations of Ardos and Zehnika launched a devastating campaign that ravaged Achaean lands and forced them to divert resources to the protection of their cities. With their armies striking deep into Achaean territory, all cities but Torinswell had fallen, and the Ardosian-Zehnikan alliance forces prepared for their siege on the walled capital of Achaea. As the siege began, Ardosian leaders received word that their capital city of Carraway had been attacked and seized by the island based country known as the Golden Isles, which had allied itself with Achaea. As Ardosian forces pulled back to reclaim their lost city, the Achaean army, bolstered with Golden Isles reinforcements, began to take back lost Achaean territory, eventually turning their sights onto Zehnika. Seven years after the Achaean-Ardosian war had begun, the Achaea-Golden Isles alliance had reclaimed all lost territory and taken control of the cities of their enemy. Unconditional surrender followed suit, with the terms that the Golden Isles, Ardos, and Zehnika would all be incorporated into the Achaean Alliance, with each of the three member nations retaining their own governments while answering to the leadership of Achaea. Following the Achaean - Ardosian War, an era of peace and prosperity followed for the Achaean Alliance and the nations that surrounded it. Trade was opened with the elven kingdoms in the south, the northern human territories, and the dwarven holds buried deep within the mountains. Expeditions were dispatched across the Carjol Desert, where contact was made with the aarakocra who lived in great mesas that rose high above the desert's dunes; and with the human nomadic desert tribes and their oasis towns.
