Cresello
Located in the south of County Acissa, Falcrest, the small city of Cresello sits on a hillside at the mouth of the Silver River. Surrounded by fertile soil, Cresello is home to a number of vineyards and olive groves and produces some of the finest wines in Omath.
Demographics
Government
Cresello is governed by a Mayor, currently Asella Alba, who reports to the Count of County Acissa. Without a formal Council, the mayor makes all administrative and executive decisions about the city, though Mayor Alba receives the advice of several of the more prominent businessmen and women, as well as religious leaders, in the city.
Defences
Cresello is surrounded by a low stone wall but otherwise maintains minimal physical defenses, relying instead on the presence of the Crown Army of Falcrest to defend the city in times of conflict.
Industry & Trade
Cresello is a mercantile hub, centered around the vineyards and olive groves that helped to establish the city. A high percentage of the adult population either works in the vineyards or supporting them as laborers and teamsters. With a small harbor south of town, a number of porters exist to move the goods from Cresello to the harbor and to move goods within the city.
In addition, the city maintains a cadre of municipal employees to clean the streets and sewers, lamplighters, and city guard.
Infrastructure
Cresello has established cobblestone roads throughout the bulk of the city, with packed dirt roads leading outside the city gates. Multiple privately owned vineyards surround the city, elaborate stone affairs stone with clay-tiled roofs. The city maintains subterranean sewer systems and has several large, marble fountains in various plazas throughout.
Guilds and Factions
The vineyard owners are one of the strongest forces of influence within the city, followed by the porters and teamsters. Despite this, equitable treatment throughout the history of the city, as well as infighting among each other, has ensured neither group has organized into guilds to attempt to exert more control over the city.
Tourism
There is very little tourism in Cresello, outside of commercial tourism. Investors, buyers, and merchants come to the city from throughout Omath and Orela. The amount of capital available in Cresello also ensures a steady stream of mercenaries and for-hire companies to help address concerns the City Guard or the Crown Army are not prepared to handle, though these incidents are few and far between.
Architecture
The architecture in Cresello is primarily brick and plaster, with clay roof tiles. Municipal buildings, such as the Hall of Cresselo, tend toward basilica-style, while individual buildings rarely rise more than two floors above the streets. Plats of land in the core of the city were awarded generously at the city's founding, so buildings there tend to be larger and more ornate, while the newer neighborhoods tend to have more uniform property lines, leading to smaller, more homogenous construction.
The Vineyards outside of the city are built in grand villa style, with a large manor house overlooking the property.
Natural Resources
The vineyards of Cresello provide high-quality grapes and wines, as well as olives, olive oil, and other byproducts. Olive wood is harvested when trees are no longer productive, used for high-quality crafts and sculptures.
