Humans

Humans are the most common and most diverse people throughout the realm of Cinder. Humans can be found acting as merchants in Ashqar , engineers in The City of Blood, knights in The Broken Barony, priests in Tarragona, and many other places and occupations. Since humans are so short lived, they are often unrelenting in the pursuit of their goals, for the grave is forever around the corner.

Themes of Humanity

  • Mortality. Your life is short lived, if you want to accomplish your goals you need to work quicker and harder than any other of the inhabitants of Cinder.
  • Frailty. To be human is to die, and if you are not already acutely aware of this, the campaign will have you coming to terms with this fact.
  • Normal. You are not special because of the circumstances of your birth, and there are many other humans just like you. To be human is to accept your place as one of many, or to rebel against it and attempt to write your name in history, regardless of the futility of your efforts.

Humans

Humans do not tend to fill any particular role at birth, as the gods of men once deemed them to have the freedom to choose their own fates. As such, their skills are broad and diverse enough to seriously tackle any challenge.

  • Your ability scores each increase by 1.
  • You gain proficiency in one skill of your choice.
  • You gain one feat of your choice.
Humans are the shortest lived of the races of Cinder, and their need for rapid expansion and progress reflect this.
  • Humans reach adulthood in their late teens and have a lifespan at just under a century.
Since humanity is so diverse, they are not beholden to any one societal or moralistic viewpoint.
  • Humans have no preference for alignment, the best and worst can be found among them.
The size and shape of individual humans is just as varied as humans themselves.
  • Humans range in height from barely 5 feet to over 6 feet, and their weights can vary from 100 lbs to 300lbs. Your size is Medium.
  • Your base walking speed is 30ft.

Humans possess the ability to learn quickly, and as such you can trade any number of skill proficiencies provided by your class, or from the human racial feature to learn a new language of your choice. This represents you foregoing time practicing that skill to learn a new language. You cannot trade proficiencies provided by your background.
