Bubbling Magma Lifts
Continental's version of elevators, These glass tubes have platforms which hold up to 10 people at one time and then the platform either goes up or down. The elevators are only moderately dangerous, with the whole powered by very hot rocks and no handrails thing. Keeping to the center means you keep your fingers. They need constant maintenance and can easily break, the tech is still very unrefined.
One of several new inventions created by The Confederation of Inovation. Born from the need to move objects faster to and from the new factories all across the Confederation. The technology is still strictly controlled by the government and does not exist outside of the Confederation's borders.
Utility
Used to quickly get people up and down vertical structures such as volcanic shafts.
Manufacturing
First a perfectly verticle shaft must be dug then it must be protected from any magma leaks. After that the lift can be installed with the channels for the magma in the base of the lift to shift through.
Social Impact
Workers can now be brought to the volcano factories and smelters from much farther away than before, allowing the actual housing to be down the mountain and freeing up space for more work to be done.
Parent Technologies
Access & Availability
Very closely guarded architectural secret, only the Confederation uses them.
Complexity
Running on Geothermal energy, they require constant attention and a vigilant operator to make sure nothing breaks. There is a magma line that pumps and flows to activate the lifting mechanism. Magma must be cycled through the floor of the lift constantly and through holes and pipes in the shaft.
Discovery
Discovered as a result of the breakthroughs on Geothermal energy and the resulting volcanic factories that grew in size, transport up and down the volcanic shafts became necessary. So using the principle of how magma goes through vents they made the bubbling magma lifts.
