Aravin
A frontier town in northern Karmis at the edge of the northern forests. Aravin is a center of the fur, wool and lumber trades. It is a hilltop town fortified with a wooden stockade and towers. The economic center of the city is its busy fur market. Political power is mainly wielded by a number of merchant houses that stiffly compete for dominance of the local trade, but are in general agreement that they want to keep out outside competition. Aravin is an important frontier garrison from which Imperial troops frequently launch expeditions against bandits, tribal raiders and monster hunts. The surrounding communities tend to be smaller versions of Aravin housing a few hundred inhabitants protected by ditches, earthen ramparts and stockades.
Demographics
The town's population is almost entirely Northron Human with perhaps a few dozen Northron Corgerians mixed in. The number of Danites and Drak Corgerian here can be counted on your hands.
Government
The town has an elected council with all property holders being able to vote for a council member to represent their ward. The town is divided into 7 wards.
Defences
The town is surrounded by a stout wooden palisade topping and earthen rampart fronted by a dry ditch. The town had three gates each fortified with strongly built wooden blockhouses. The southeastern corner of town is home to a military garrison which has an additional wall facing the town and contains barracks, stables, storehouses, an armory, smiths shop and a headquarters building for the regional commander.
Industry & Trade
Aravin is a center of the fur, wool and lumber trades. The river running just outside the town's eastern wall provides power to several sawmills. Charcoal ovens are also located on the west side town and use the waste from the saw mills. Off the town's main square is a busy fur market and a wool market. Twice weekly the main square hosts a farmers market. Several large inns host a steady flow of merchants. The northeside of the town houses both tanneries and dye shops. Weaving is widely pursued in houses throughout the town.
