Lambda Corridon

Lambda Corridon is a Knight World, and the oldest (human) inhabited planet in the Corridon System. It is ruled by House le Corridon; currently, the Duchess of Lambda Corridon is Lady Katarina le Corridon. The planet was the original center of humanity in the Corridon system, though at present the Forge World of Eta Corridon is more populated. Lambda Corridon is primarily an agricultural world, as its large prairies and temperate climate allow for the production of huge amounts of flora.

History

Origins

The origins of House le Corridon and Lambda Corridon are unknown, lost to the depths of time. For as long as is known, the planet was ruled by the proud Knights of House le Corridon. When the ships of the 18th Legion arrived during the Great Crusade, the House chose to swear fealty to the Imperium, and joined the ranks of the Questor Mechanicus. Under the auspices of the Machine Cult, Lambda Corridon didn't change significantly, even as the Mechanicum built vast facilities on nearby Eta Corridon.

Necron War

Shortly after the Underwar began on Eta Corridon, a large force of Necrons surfaced on Lambda Corridon as well. With the Adeptus Mechanicus forces engaged in defending their homeworld, no aid was available for the beleaguered Knight World. Though badly outgunned, and with much of the population useless in combat, Striden le Corridon organized a bitter defence against the Necron assault. Over the course of the war, his forces were pushed back into Corridon City, the only major settlement on the planet, as well as home to the only spaceport. Here, he held back the Necrons in bloody siege warfare, though at great cost both in lives and Knights. Several Armiger houses were wiped out entirely in the bloody street fighting. Elsewhere, all of the peasantry that didn't manage to escape to Corridon City was brutally killed by the Necron hordes. It wasn't until Lady Katarina le Corridon returned, bringing the Omnissiah's Scorn, as well as huge force of Skitarii led by Archmagos Dominus Andrissa Varashivi, ending the brutal siege and freeing the planet.

Post-War

The end of the war didn't end the planet's struggles, though. With much of the population dead, and Corridon City devastated, many thought the planet's days of peaceful farming were over. However, with their new closeness with the Mechanicus of Eta Corridon, House le Corridon was able to secure the use of growth vats to produce a new population for the planet. Within a few years of the end of the conflict, the population returned to prewar levels; though it took decades for production to return, the planet has now returned to the idyllic backwater it was before the war.

Geography

Lambda Corridon is a large, rocky world. Due to low tectonic activity, the planet's surface is incredibly smooth; the largest hills are no more than a few hundred feet high, and the "oceans" are rarely too deep for a person to wade in. These factors mean that almost the entirety of the planet can be devoted to agriculture, and dozens of millenia of farming have lead to incredible yields year after year. 96% of the surface is covered in farms; a further 3% is covered by urban areas or buildings; less than 1% is covered by non-human activity.

Ecosystem

The natural ecology of Lambda Corridon has been long-since replaced with a human dominated cycle. Farmers alternate crops between four varieties of grain vegetables, some of which have been modified as nitrogen-fixers, and the few remaining natural lifeforms have evolved to live in the wake of these plants. In the oceans, a different variety of modified rice crops are used; the few surviving fish live off the droppings from these plants.

Economy

Agriculture

The vast majority of Lambda Corridon's population is engaged in agriculture. The planet is a breadbasket both for Eta Corridon and several surrounding systems. Due to the planet's temperate climate and lack of significant geography, nearly the entire surface is farmed, including the oceans (which are rarely deeper than 2-3 feet.) Despite a small population, enough food is farmed on the planet to feed a population many times greater than the sparsely-populated Lambda Corridon.

Knights

The only other significant activity on Lambda Corridon is that associated with the Knights. The courts of House le Corridon, and it's various fiefs and vassals, employ many to fulfill the many intricate courtly rituals and rites that are necessitated by the ancient war machines. Much of the population of Corridon City is occupied with this.
