Turner's Syndrome

Turner's Syndrome is a mental disorder that affects Homyn who spend time interacting from native races of recently contacted moons--most commonly members of the Lunar Brigade. Many natives of Io's moons mistake Homyn for gods upon first contact, given their relative technological superiority, propensity to use alchemical spells, and the fact that many are accompanied by familiars who are often, in fact, fallen gods of other annexed civilizations.   The Homyn Kingdom itself stridently rejects these apprehensions, as its edicts strive to eliminate superstition in all forms from their society. However, on an individual basis many find the idea of godhood appealing. Those already prone to narcissistic tendencies may find themselves accepting the mantle of a god out of sociopathic selfishness or may actually come to believe in their own divinity over long periods of reinforcement, especially when left in isolation with their "followers."   The syndrome is named after the first member of the Lunar Brigade who exhibited its symptoms. Since its identification, members of the Lunar Brigade tasked with visiting uncontacted or recently-contacted moons receive training and oversight to prevent its onset. However, some cases still slip through the cracks. Notably, the Homyn alchemist and heiress, Shiobhan, contracted a severe case when she isolated herself with a group of Moku apostates in a misguided attempt to protect them.   Arguably, Brigadier General Howe also manifested signs of Turner Syndrome when he turned the Cloudhead over Hopaku City against the Moku to rain lightning down on them and cement himself in their minds as more powerful than their Goddess. However, in Howe's case his ultimate goal was not to place himself as the object of their worship, but instead get them to abandon their Goddess in favor of the Homyn Kingdom and its scientific process.
