The Valley of Glass

The valley is filled with white and red sediment, which is attributed to the lime content in the soil. It's named after a substance that's found lining the walls of the crater. Called “white glass,” it's actually an opal: a type of silica, like quartz. The opals, along with the valley itself, were created by the intense heat and the intense evaporation caused by The Ending, mixed with the high lime content in the soil. Over time, the opal has begun to erode off of the walls of the crater, revealing the red and white soil once again.   Only the bravest of souls dare enter the valley. Between the sharp edges of its contents and the legends surrounding it, most people are weary of going anywhere near it. Trying to get someone to charter a ship to the island is near impossible; only the most dubious of sailors will go there and will never stay to see if their employers make it out alive.
