Winter Elf
Sub-Species of Delvia
A sub-species of elves adapted to the harsh cold of the Nespian Tundra. These elves split off from the southern society of Viabuedon long before the arrival of humans on the continent. Over time, their morphology changed as they adapted to the extreme cold and high altitudes.
Winter elves do not establish large colonies or cities, preferring a tribal or even nomadic lifestyle instead. Though many winter elves populate Nespia, you will never find more than fifty in one settlement.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Winter elves are very distinctive from most of their brethren as they are exceptionally pale, some of their kind even exhibiting skin tones of white or pale blue. Their features are sharply angular and their frames are lithe and muscular.
The majority of winter elves have eyes in shades of blue, though green, orange, red, and yellow are common as well.
Hair colors among snow elves range from white, pale blondes, dark browns and blacks, to shades of blue.
Biological Traits
Winter elves are especially adapted to extreme cold and high altitudes. They can shrug off temperatures that would cause quick death to other creatures, and can breathe normally at the highest of mountain peaks.
Ecology and Habitats
The winter elves of Nespia take great care of their environment, they heavily worship the goddess Selûne and work to maintain the balance she covets. They will only hunt for necessity, and take conservatively from the land around them, never interfering with natural plant growth to establish concentrated agriculture.
Additional Information
Social Structure
Winter elf societies are divided into two equal classes depending on their function in society: Hunters and Artisans. The hunters are responsible for the basic survival of the tribe (hunting, fishing, gathering food and supplies), and the defense of their territory. The artisans use the raw materials brought in by the hunters to create clothing, meals, and other essentials. Because of the necessity of both sides, the two groups maintain a symbiotic relationship. These two groups are governed by a Jarl and High Priest of Selûne. Major decisions for a tribe are decided cooperatively by elected heads of both classes, plus the Jarl and High Priest, but every member of a tribe is entitled to speak on important matters.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Winter elves are especially adept at seeing through falling snow, fog, and discerning movement from creatures with natural snowy camouflage.
