Commonwealth of Sabulum

The Commonwealth of Sabulum is a brutal, harsh place, where even the strongest struggle to survive. It is a place of horrible weather, desolate drought, and unrelenting wildlife. It's as if anything and everything—both within Sabulum's borders and surrounding its outskirts—wants to kill you. But even still, its people are a proud, stubborn one, always innovating and pushing through the sandstorms simply to prove to themselves that they can. The Tortles, Aasimar, Tieflings, Kenku will prosper, even if their lands themselves reject them.   Sabulum is the largest Nation by land area, barely beating out Sunya with its recent border expansions. It stretches well over half way across its major landmass, covering vast deserts and savannas, but is mostly landlocked within it, finding only one stable port city. This makes foreign relation hard for Sabulum, as sea is the safest way to travel, and travel brings trade. Orchus is an extremely frequent trade partner simply due to proximity, but other Nations try to keep up either by packing into the port city during the merchanting season or by traversing the moderately-safe land routes. This makes travel to Sabulum a risk, but with how profitable a place on the hinges of its own survival can be, most say it's worth it. And, well, those that disagree are likely dead.   Sabulum culture is spread thin. Since very few true permanent settlements—and even fewer cities—exist, tradition essentially doesn't exist. Each town, tribe, and organization is simply living to keep itself alive, celebrating only whatever is important to their races or backgrounds. This can Sabulum one of the most interesting places culturally, as neighbors will often have wildly different beliefs, or one of the most stagnant, as large-scale festivals are essentially nonexistent. But the people themselves can't be understated, what with their stubborn pride and headstrong will to live on.   Qwiescere is the largest city, and therefore capital, of Sabulum. Though the "government" in Sabulum is essentially just a council of wealthy traders establishing regulation, a central base of operations is still useful, and Qwiescere is perhaps the safest large-scale city within Sabulum. That being said, it is quite quaint for a "city." It's really more of an overgrown town with paved roads and a large, overbearing central building for the oligarchs. The people don't mind, though. After all, the people are the most cutthroat there are. If they wanted to kill their government, they'd do it within the hour.
