Aquan derived from the Primordial language and widely spoken by the Aquatic Elves, Hadozee, Merfolk, Water Genasi, Locathah and Tritons was the language of the Elemental plane of Water. It is a flowing language full of subtle meanings relying heavily on context and inflexion. Aquan sounds like the soft bubbling of a stream, but when spoken loudly with passion it sounds more akin to the crashing roar of ocean waves. Irrespective of the fact that it was derived from the Primordial language, Aquan uses the Rippline runic system rather than the normal Barazhad runic system. The Rippline runic system just like the pattern of ripples made in water is complex wavering lines and concentric circles In the late 15th century DR, it was considered a dialect of Primordial, so that creatures who spoke one of the other elemental dialects such as Ignan, Auran or Terran could understand Aquan and vice-versa.
