Aubergine League

The Aubergine League is a thalassocratic confederation of independent cities along the Aubergine Coast in southern Zandrazil. The confederation originated from private protection agreements between merchant guilds in the coastal cities, who would often lend military aid to trade partners in order to protect the trade routes throughout the coast. As these guilds gained influence within their respective city governments, their private agreements expanded into formal alliances between the cities.

Structure

The League is divided into four organizations: the General Forum, the Violet Brigade, the High Court, and the Office of the Secretary.

General Forum

The General Forum is the main operational body of the League, comprised of the Doges representing the constituent polities. The Forum serves as a neutral ground upon which these independent actors can discuss matters of trade, war, and policy. All trade agreements between private entities within the League must first be sanctioned by the General Forum; this allows them to control prices and monitor the import or export of goods, both between constituent cities and to foreign markets. The General Forum sets recruitment quotas for each city to contribute manpower to the Violet Brigade, dictates the movement of troops between cities and commissions the construction of military buildings. The General Forum is responsible for deciding to admit new cities into the League.
