Adventurers Guild
Structure
The leader of the entire guild is the Guildmaster, below them is the Guildkeepers who operate each local guild houses, each guild house also has a coinkeep who manages the treasury and oversees payments for jobs, at the bottom of the short list of roles are the adventurers themselves.
Culture
There is a general understanding among all members of the Adventurers Guild that job that needs doing is a job worth being paid for. The world has a lot of problems - monsters, fiends, bandits, beasts - and if not for the coin, it's hard to believe there would be enough volunteers to tackle the threats. Guild members are generally frowned upon acting for no reward because it sets a dangerous precedent that might spill over and create expectations that would cost the guild memberships. It seems cruel, but it's the only way to ensure the longevity of the guild and to make sure that there's enough swords to tackle the abundance of threats out there.
Public Agenda
To serve the weak and defenseless by providing adventurers to complete any task or defeat any threat for a fee.
Assets
The guild operates a Guild House in each of the city-states, while also utilizing Heroes' Vigil as their main headquarters. It is often and mistakenly assumed that the guild owns Heroes' Vigil but in fact it simple has operated out of the keep since its formation in the 4th Age. The Keep is technically owned by the Rangers and operated by their leader who serves as Castellan.
Each guild house contains a vault where it keeps the accumulated fees as well as a surplus of coin to cover expenses, a smithy stocked with mundane weaponry and basic light and medium armors, and a bunkhouse for adventurers to rest in between work.
History
Following the Fifth Great Conjunction, the Rangers assembled at Heroes' Vigil to address the growing problem of monsters terrorizing the kingdom and there not being enough Rangers to keep them all in line. The proposed solution was a new organization that would draw from members of the Rangers, the knights of the kingdom, and those in the common citizenry who wished to stand up and lend a hand. Those who would complete a task above and beyond their station for this new organization would be rewarded with a small amount of coin from Aldamere's treasury.
Following the fall of Aldamere, there was even greater demand as the Lower Realms transitioned into the new 5th Age. But there was no longer a kingdom or treasury to draw coin from. Instead, the newly appointed guildmaster - a young gnome called Guildmaster Pal - proposed a radical solution: asking those who make the requests to pay the reward instead. The Guild would take a small percentage to maintain itself, and the rest of the fee would be delivered to the adventurers by the guild when proof of the task's completion was offered.
The idea was controversial, especially among the populace of the Borderlands who already had lost so much when the kingdom fell. However, in the end, it has become something of a tradition in its own right. Some villages overcome their feuds and rivalries just so work together to make enough coin to petition for an adventurer.
