Halflings

It is believed that halflings are descended from humans, possibly with some dwarven blood mixed in as well. Their lifespans of nearly a century seem to support this hypothesis; tending to live longer on average than humans, but this may be due in large part to their much more peaceful lifestyle. A slight point of the ears also lends credence to the thought that halflings share some dwarven blood. However they are much shorter even than dwarves, standing between three and four feet tall. Another race with a variety of skin tones, and hair and eye colors, they are distinct for the somewhat curlier hair on their heads, and lack of facial hair even in the men. But perhaps their most iconic physical feature besides their stature are their disproportionately large, hairy feet. Contrary to popular myth, halflings do in fact wear shoes when the situation calls for it, they just tend not to in their leisure time. And they have a good deal of leisure time. Halfling culture heavily emphasizes farming, gardening, brewing, baking, cooking, and really anything directly related to the production of good food and drink. Halfling wines, cheeses, and cured meats are coveted the world over, and their ales rival even those of the best dwarven brewmasters. Yes it is the simple, pastoral lifestyle which fits them best, with as little danger and excitement as possible.
